This is why you do it DS-style folks. If putting it in the wrong way makes the phone break, don't let people put it in the wrong way.
Are they seriously blaming the users for their bad design?
If I understand correctly the design flaw are the users.
So basically "you're holding it wrong" but for Samsung. Ya know, it isn't good to be exactly like apple, errors and all.
Samsung is right here, how stupid do you have to be to put the stylus back in the wrong way, its both ends don't even look similar to each other
Samsung is right here, how stupid do you have to be to put the stylus back in the wrong way, its both ends don't even look similar to each other
But people are massive idiots. Especially since Samsung phone's are very "for the masses" models, they probably should have keyed it somehow. Poor design knowing your customers.

Sure the design should be changed, but it's no different than not following the instructions of anything else.
In what universe do you grab a pen by the end that writes? That's like grabbing a knife by the blade.
It should have been keyed. The customers aren't stupid, and in past models it was IIRC. You could absent mindedly put the pen back and not worry about destroying your VERY EXPENSIVE(this is another reason there's no excuse Samsung didn't do this.) phone.

When you declick the pen with the screen off, the notepad automatically opens up for you to start writing. It's a feature similar to the Surface Pro 3. This is a user issue, not Samsung.
what happened to potentially putting it in backwards on accident? why isn't there a notch on one side to prevent you from doing this. it's bad design
what happened to potentially putting it in backwards on accident? why isn't there a notch on one side to prevent you from doing this. it's bad design
Not only this, but Samsung's condescending reply of 'refer to the instruction manual' (being Corporate speak for "You're all fucking idiots") didn't help

It's not to difficult to imagine a scenario where a user drops the pen, picks it up, doesn't pay attention to which direction the pen is facing, and attempts to insert it when they realize it slides in, especially if they are preoccupied with another task. Any design that has a quality assurance team behind it should attempt to make something idiot proof, and while there will always be a better idiot, not keying in the pen and allowing it to break the device when inserted backwards is in no way cherry picking your idiot.
All they have to do is make a tab on the end of the pen so it cannot be inserted incorrectly. Probably not even a cent's worth of change to save lots of headache down the line

I can't see myself ever bothering to check if it went in the right way because if it slides in, its usually not backwards.
I could see myself going "hey it fits in this way too" and putting it in backwards for giggles.

To be completely honest ive used a note 3 for like 2 1/2 years and use the pen on a daily basis and never once put it in upside down. I mean i get the design should take something like this into account, but at the same time it's something that strikes me funny that this is a problem. It's not made to work like that and yeah it can be a slip of the mind to do it but personally speaking it's something i just never have done.
