Certain applications render images brighter than they should be on one monitor

This is quite clearly a software issue rather than me perceiving the images as brighter.
Here's a screenshot of an image in Windows Photo Viewer that spans the gap between the two (different makes) monitors:

How the hell do I get true colour back?
Open up color management (if search doesn't find it, go to screen resolution windows, click additional and then colors tab) and make sure the monitor profiles match.

I've never been in here before but it looks like the Dell's getting a bit uppity. How do I put it in it's place?
Aha, finally(hurf) worked out how to turn the calibration off.
I had to turn it off for all users.
