I think that's because the definition of "hot" has somewhat shifted over to become more "stuckup", whilst "cute" or "beautiful" always has a positive connotation.

I like long hair (colour is irrelevant really, but redheads get me going most of the time). Skinny is ok as long as they aren't a fucking tooth pick, i like some fat so I know they don't have a secret eating disorder. Long legs are sexy as fuck, nice legs are way more important to me than big tits or anything else. Curves are a plus, but they aren't really needed, just as long as they have a little bit and aren't straight up and down. Tattoos and piercings can be nice as long as they are tasteful and aren't overdone.

I just dislike what I call, "Fabulous bitches." Those cute girls that plaster their face with makeup or wear skimpy clothes and have big hair that they've worked hours on to just stay up. Putting on nail polish in class. That kinda shit.
Also for some reason a girl that can still look good in nothing but a shirt and some sweats gets me off. I understand completely. Me personally like any women that's shorter/same height as me. Any hair color (although I love redheads) and I sorta would chose the women that stand out. I think colored hair is awesome, piercings are alright as long as they are not overdone. I absolutely love long straightened hair though. Like to chest length.
