Never forget what this game could have been.

I seriously hate how they went all "Shit, this is too different looking from CoD, CAN'T RISK IT!" and then they just made it into another generic shooter.
I was really looking forward to it. And I also liked the name Overstrike more.
man I have never seen a game so effectively sieve out everything that made me interested in it

If there's one company I trust, it's Insomniac, they do solid games. Having said not I'm not entirely sure why they went with EA, or why this needed to be their first multiplatform game so close to the end of the generation.
One of the most depressing gaming stories recently...
Overstrike looked so fucking awesome.
Seeing posts above me, I decided to watch the newest trailer.
It is bad.
Fucking EA...
I still can't believe they changed it because their focus group of 12 year olds didn't like it
and i'm not joking about that, either
Here's a little lesson, EA: If something isn't broken, don't try to fix it.
Maybe I'm being way too optimistic, but I still think this could be good. It may not be as visually unique as Overstrike, but it still could be a fun game.

I was going to comment on how they made it more gritty to appeal to children.
Seriously, it's meant to be a M rated game yet the target audience is under that rating.
Freaking publishers, if they were mature and wise themselves then there wouldn't be so many game projects on kickstarter.

It could be fun, but I am not going to support what they did to it by buying it.
"What is a "gameplay and artstyle concept?"" - everyone

There's no concrete proof that the game in that old-ass trailer was actually real. For all we know, it's just a proof-of-concept that never came to light.

well no shit
nobody thinks that's what the game actually played like, but they were clearly going for a more distinct artstyle back then compared to the later fuse stuff

thanks for pointing out obvious shit everyone knew
no one thought that was the actual game, but as a concept trailer it showed that the game they had planned had a sense of humor, some style, and personality. It could've had a lighthearted jokey tone that was fresh. but instead they changed it to Fuse, a bland, boring, cookie cutter shooter that looks no different than any other recently released cover based shooter.

except the developers literally stated overstrike was meant to be exactly like the trailer until a focus group of 12 year old playtesters came in and told them that "it looks like something that my little brother would play"
i know you like being contrarian to make yourself feel smart but it would help if you checked your facts before making statements about how everyone except you is dumb ok ;)

I've yet to see a focus group that hasn't ruined or dumbed down everything they touch.

The most offensive thing about that is that they chose focus testers who aren't even old enough to be playing the game.
I highly suspect EA intentionally chose those testers, who are CoD's target demographic, because they knew what they would say about Overstrike's art and design direction, and knew they would be able to leverage that against Insomniac to force them to change the game to appeal to the CoD demographic.
EA pretty much sabotaged the game to get the precious mass market appeal that is literally killing any sort of innovation and creativity in the industry. Fucking disgusting.
Even worse is that you cannot vote with your wallet.
If no one buys this shitheap, that hurts Insomniac's reputation and means they're less likely to be allowed to do games they want, not to mention the message sent by doing so falls on deaf ears at EA. They just come up with an excuse or a scapegoat instead of taking responsibility.
If people do buy it, that sends the message to EA that it's OK to shit on their dev's creative vision in order to maximize market appeal and reap profits in pursuit of CoD's sales numbers.
Either way, you and Insomniac lose and EA laughs all the way to the bank. That second crash cannot come soon enough.

Focus groups ruin everything I swear.
