In my city (sydney) there are part time firefighters, called retained firefighters, where you are on call in the case of an emergency, but youre not actually at the station. Is it possible to do this job if you live in a metropolitan area? I hear most of these jobs are in rural areas.

There's a shitton of metropolitan areas in the world, I'm sure somewhere they have volunteer firefighters that are on call.
