I'm looking to pick up a laptop for school but I don't know much about them. So, my more tech savvy internet friends, I'm looking for recommendations. >$600 MAX. I really would like to even spend less than that if it can be helped. >5+ hours of battery life while doing all sorts of shit. That's really it.
7+ hours of constant use? Good luck.
7+ hours of constant use? Good luck.
My Eee PC can do that easy. It really shouldn't be that hard to find one that is a bit more powerful than that while keeping battery life.
7+ hours of constant use? Good luck.
Well I'm not looking for some super powerful mega laptop, just something for web browsing, paper writing, minecrafting but I'd like something bigger than a netbook too.
I dunno....... Minecraft requires some beefy specs to run well despite it's simple looks. Thank Notch's poor coding for that. Yes, even though it's fun to play and all that, something fun like that can still be poorly coded.
Ah, well minecraft playing ability isn't required, just would be a nice bonus :v: I'd definitely like to be able to stream HD video from like youtube. I have an older netbook that can't play anything higher than 360p without lagging and the battery is getting old, i only get like 2 hours of life.
You could do well with $400 or $500, you could get a good enough for gaming laptop for around $800. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline] Well, not with 8 hours of battery life.
Okay, well the 7+ hours of battery life might be more than I would really need. The longest possible stretch where I might use it nonstop is like 4-5 hours.
Battery life is simply a matter of how heavy you're willing to carry and how good you are at electronics. Get crafty.
Why not just take the cord with you and plug it into the nearest outlet. There are outlets all over the place. But Eee Netbooks will probably be the most common netbooks that can do 5-8hrs of battery life.

Newest HP Pavilion dm1 (with AMD Fusion, the newest model announced at CES2011). Very portable. Very good battery. Powerful for its size. Only 480$. Looks very good (IMO).
They already have AMD Fusion laptops? Yes, get the HP Pavilion dm1. That IGP, the 6310 has got to be pretty damn good. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] And get the 4GB RAM upgrade to last you longer and/or the 500GB 7200RPM HDD.
Thanks. I like the look of the HP Pavilion.
