Please don't be a train wreck like Resident Evil 6.
Hopefully it's more like Revelations 2 than RE6. Revelations 2 was waaaaaaaay more of a Resident Evil game than RE6 was and was actually pretty damn good.
Resident Evil 6 would have been great if it was just Leon's Campaign 3 times longer. Still a good game to play with a friend.
Resi 6 was so abysmal. Shit in every way. A non-existent story, 0 character development, annoying characters in general, shit dialogue, too much forced-in coolness, bad gameplay design and very annoying boss battles which were dragging on for way too long. It wasn't even fun to play with a friend. Resi 7 can only be better.

The first half or quarter of Leon's campaign was okay but the rest was still as shit as the other campaigns.

I was slightly put off when it got to [sp]several decade to hundred year old reanimated corpses that could sprint and leap at me just because of a virus gas, and Simmon's boss fights were just silly and overly long.[/sp] Chris' campaign was generic shoot em up with a fuckload of annoyances, Jake's was pretty good, never completed Ada's (Friend and I co-oping full game) due to boredom. I enjoyed the 'charm' of RE5 a lot more.
Resident Evil 6 is best enjoyed if you don't play it like a Resident Evil game, because it's terrible as one even in the proper element. That's why I amusingly enough enjoyed Chris' campaign the most, because it was over-the-top action crap that actually works extremely well with the game's mechanics. Regardless of your opinion on 6 in the series, it honestly had a very fun and interesting style of movement. I can't think of many other third-person games where you're able to move in such a loose manner that allows you to dive, move quite seamlessly around your environment, change shoulder views for firing, and use a variety of melee attacks, including being able to parry almost every single enemy attack. The gameplay just flows excellently when you're in the element it thrives most in. Play Mercenaries and go for combos, and you'll just get into a perfect killing rhythm and become able to appreciate how the game functions. If you play it as a Resident Evil game, you'll be disappointed, it almost makes me think had the game been something entirely new and not a Resident Evil game, it probably would have been very successful.
I thought the movement was great but it annoyed the hell out of me that if you saw a zombie on the ground, you knew it was going to leap out at you when you got close but you couldn't kill it until it actually attacked you so you were forced to get attacked a lot to proceed through the game. Eventually I stopped when I got to a bug where the only way to fix it is restart the chapter but I really didn't want to do that again so I gave up
It's gonna be just like 6 and you all know it.
I guess it must be a guilty pleasure, but I really loved going through resident evil 5 & especially 6, I think it's because I never took the story seriously and I absolutely love playing through them with my brother, I feel like they'd be better received if they weren't branded as Resident Evil though, it breaks peoples' expectations I guess?
I really liked Resident Evil 5 - With 6, I remember enjoying Leon's campaign a lot but the other two weren't very good? [editline]7th October 2015[/editline] Didn't Chris' story have a severe ammo shortage problem or something
The best part of RE6 was mercenaries mode. All of the campaigns were pretty lackluster and had some awful level design that didn't allow the mechanics to really shine. But in mercanaries mode, where you actually have lots of space to move around and fight, it's really fun and engaging. This is on top of lackluster boss fights, bland characters, and a bullshit makes no sense story; and that's coming from someone who's played alot of Resident Evil games.

The campaigns rarely put you in situations that meshed well with the combat/movement mechanics, though.
Make it everything that Resident Evil 5 should have been. An actual successor to the masterpiece that is 4.
More excited for the RE2Master.. Resident evil 4 was decent and I could deal with the change in play style, but after that the game became really lack luster.

I really hope we get a different campaign for each main character with completely different themes that ruin any consistent mood of the game with a shitty UI and Terminator-esque action setpieces with quick time events in them, I love unfocused games.
It's gonna be just like 6 and you all know it.
I have some faith after reR2
I really liked Resident Evil 5 - With 6, I remember enjoying Leon's campaign a lot but the other two weren't very good? [editline]7th October 2015[/editline] Didn't Chris' story have a severe ammo shortage problem or something
Ammo was fine for me in Chris' story. Although I was playing co-op where ammo pick ups are clientside, meaning we had two players rather one player and a dumb bot. Leon's however, I was constantly discarding excess ammo packs.
I'm expecting bad things because it seems like only the Revelations series dev team knows what they're doing. I don't even know why the fuck I enjoyed RE6, I think it's shitty as hell, the story is stupid(though I admittedly like Jake and Sherry.), the gameplay is clunky yet I just have fun with it, especially when dicking around with a friend. I consider it my personal video game equivalent to The Room.
I just feel like we never got a true successor to the beast that was Resident Evil 4. I STILL play that damn thing to this day. I've beaten it more times than I can count and I still love coming back and replaying it. RE5 was decent but it couldn't hold a candle to RE4's charm. I feel like if they can't emulate, recreate, or surpass the success of RE4 then they really should try to refocus on the aspects that made RE1-3 so beloved by the fan base. Like the fucking survival horror for instance. [editline]9th October 2015[/editline]
I'm sorry but one of you is going to have to change avatars.
Never! We shall stand in solidarity!
Cross your fingers for high-budget Revelations 2 style gameplay because that's pretty much all we can hope for at the moment without being unrealistic. [editline]9th October 2015[/editline] The Evil Within is a true successor to RE4, but it's also really janky and has that weird psuedo-low-budget Japanese game feeling to the actual gameplay.
The evil within. Isn't that the game that came out that was locked to 30 fps and had black bars for "dat cinematic feel?" I'll pass if that's the case.
The evil within. Isn't that the game that came out that was locked to 30 fps and had black bars for "dat cinematic feel?" I'll pass if that's the case.
It was also overall not very enjoyable or particularly interesting or scary.
Both can be disabled on the pc version fairly easily though the port is a bit shit, very crashy and unoptimized. The gameplay itself is decent though (if a bit unfair).
Well I lack a worthy PC. Hell I lack a PC period. Guess I'm passing.
It was also overall not very enjoyable or particularly interesting or scary.
i didn't really have a problem with it not being scary, what killed it for me was the lack of any real drive to its action. the first few chapters are great because they're a lot more focused, there's lots of setpieces and clear direction going on, things are definitely happening. but as the game goes on it falls into a clear pattern of new area --> wander aimlessly --> quick exposition --> new area. very little happens outside of this and it drags awfully. if there were just a concise goal you're supposed to reach, like rescuing the President's Daughter or something, you would know that you're accomplishing something by meandering around and fighting zombies. the only assurance you have that you're reaching the end of Evil Within is that there's an achievement for beating it.
Honestly I think the main problem with the series is they keep focusing on making it Co-op instead of secluding you from help. All these doors you can't open without a partner, and bosses that require a 2 person melee finisher are what I really find is breaking the game away from being horror. Well, that and the over the top action. I hope RE7 is more focused on one big explorable area with back tracking and maybe some light puzzling instead of traveling around the world like Call of Duty. I think they should take some lessons from The Evil Within. That's more of a Resident Evil game than 5 and 6 were. Although it too lost touch during the second half of the game where you had like 6 weapons and there were frequent combat segments with some set-piece action sections that were about as "horror game" as the mech suits were in FEAR 2 & 3.

there where all crap at least RE5 had Wesker
