Well, it's dead.
What could go wrong!
This puts me off, I've always thought that ~€50 + €15 monthly (or however much it'll cost over here) is a bit steep.
The game will flop then, should really be F2P.
You just signed your death warrant gentlemen...
Well, at least I can expect F2P in a few months.
I also like how WoW is always referenced as the one game that survived with a subscription model, basically being one of the very few games that managed that in the last 10 years :v:

Yeah EVE and WoW came to mind, I never really heard of any other game that's been out for over a year and still has a subscription fee now

On topic: I think everyone knows the drill by now: Game will come out, they will "not have anticipated people completing what was supposed to be a years worth of content in 2 weeks", people leave game, game goes free to play with cash shop so it has a chance to remain. While not terribly interested in Elder Scrolls Online, I'd love for it to become the rare recent MMO that thrives on being subscription based.
I also believe EVE has survived well in the last 10 years as well which also has pay 2 play
Because play time is infinite in a space diplomacy simulator?
Going Free to play could hurt the experience, a Guild Wars style pricing could be better but would limit their profitabilisation of the game
Microtransactions exist to solve this problem. You wouldn't believe how much money people are willing to spend on virtual data.
I think it should have subscription fees but much less. Maybe 7.50
Going Free to play could hurt the experience, a Guild Wars style pricing could be better but would limit their profitabilisation of the game
Not to mention Guild Wars' model kind of fucks over the game's economy.
There goes that.
Just make it a substantial single payment like GW1/2 did.
Why the fuck not use the B2P model? It proven to be quite effective, just look at Guild Wars 2 and how fast it was sold. Subscription is as old as WoW.
Fucking d r o p p e d
oh look, another game i wont be playing then!
I also believe EVE has survived well in the last 10 years as well which also has pay 2 play
since you can buy game-time with in game money, it's pay 2 play only for the first few months or if you forget to add time. quite a lot of people have so much bank they dont need to pay for the game
I also like how WoW is always referenced as the one game that survived with a subscription model, basically being one of the very few games that managed that in the last 10 years :v:
Even WoW is dying in the subscriptions. EVE can get away with it because it's a very, very niche game, and requires a completely different mindset than conventional WoW (or any other MMO) players. Unless TES:O can do something completely unique it's going to go the TOR route. [editline]21st August 2013[/editline]
"Charging a flat monthly (or subscription) fee means that we will offer players the game we set out to make, and the one that fans want to play," ZeniMax Online general manager Matt Firor told Gamestar at Gamescom. "Going with any other model meant that we would have to make sacrifices and changes we weren't willing to make."
This sounds a lot like what The Old Republic devs said before it came out.
I think it should have subscription fees but much less. Maybe 7.50
I never got why everyone making MMOs decided on $15, especially recently. I would say $5/month is palatable, but I can subscribe to so much other shit for less than $15. My Netflix + Google Music All Access is $16 a month and it's hours more of entertainment than a MMO will ever provide.
I'll still pay for it. I'd much rather pay monthly than have a fucked up F2P business model and end up paying more than i'd pay with a sub.
Guild Wars is the only MMO I ever really liked, largely because its not subscription based. Just lost a lot of interest in this.
I was actually looking forward to it, too.
More subscriptions? are you shitting me?
So how long is this one going to last? Three months?
I was really looking forward to this. Not anymore :(
