Apple: The company on the edge of revolution, or downfall?

I'm here today to offer you my thoughts (and get your's) on the direction apple is going with it's operating systems. Apple, as of right now, has two operating systems; it has iOS, a mobile OS for it's iDevices, and OS X which is it's flagship OS. Apple also makes two kinds of computers, Macs like the iMac and Macbooks, and then they make their iDevices, which for all intense and purposes are computers. October 20th, 2010: Apple holds "Back to the mac event" where it unveils Lion, it's latest update to it's OS X, and the new macbook air, the "next generation of macbooks." Both of these things take features from their iDevices and bring them "back to the mac," both from an OS perspective and a physical one. Lion incorporates features from iOS into OS X; the macbook air incorporates features taken from the iPad such as a big battery, flash memory, and instant-on capabilities.
Now, five things are to blame for apples success in 2003-present, and those are the iPod. iTunes store, iPhone, AppStore, and iPad. Apple has become huge because of these key services and products. The argument that I'm trying to make is that, by observing these things, it is save to say that apple is at a fork in the road right now, and of course they are going to take the one they should take: Change. They are beginning to evolve their other products to mimic their iDevices. Lion is going to be a lot more gesture driven than snow leopard. It also has some very interesting features that seem to be optimized for touch input:

Note to slider style buttons in the finder window.
Now, to the point: I think that Apple may possibly, after a few more updates to both iOS and OS X, continue this pattern until they eventually make the two OS's meet in the middle. They have to do it right, however. If they pay too much attention to one OS than the other it could end up not working. I expect them to eventually bring the finder to iOS, which would be a colossal step in that direction. I personally hope this is the case; OS X isn't meant for the iPad and iOS isn't meant for macs, but imagine if you had the best of both on one device.
What do you guys think?
Some iOS features would not be bad in Mac OSX, but I really hope they don't end up with only one OS, that's retarded.
Apple will steer towards a downfall the moment Steve Jobs passes away.
Think about it, everything that apple's famous for has sprouted from Steve's brain.

I think people are giving Jobs' to much credit, sure he made the company rise again, but he isn't the Messiah, and the company will go on without him. 90% percent of all people have no idea what so ever, who he is, so he isn't even a commercial pole or whatever.

I disagree. Apple was falling after he left originally. Their rise with products like the iphone and ipad as well as their sleek metal design that is always praised, all of these are designs and ideas Steve had.

Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy before he came back. What did he bring with him? The Ipod.
That is true but remember that apple sort of represents the us government, Steve is the president and then he has is cabinet. When he came to apple he cleaned house and renovated, bringing in his own "friends." I think that if he leaves they will carry what he started.
Well, along with Steve a bunch of other NeXT people joined Apple. I think that Steve still played a big part in Apple's rising, but it wasn't just him.
Also, I think Apple is going to do well for the next few years, but I think that they really focus on iOS too much.
This is true, however apple is aware of when people think their shit stinks enough to hurt them as a company, and they usually change, but in a way where they act like it's revolutionary.
I'm glad Apple had the Back to The Mac event, I was getting worried that they would forget their roots.

Well, Microsoft invested in Apple, so that explains why Apple didn't just pass away there.

Microsoft saved apple at one point i believe

Pretty much what I said.
I'm just saying, there was other factors than Steve Jobs.
I am actually very interested at the thought of a Steve-less apple. Not only to see if the company changes and if so how drastically, but to see how people who atleats know who he is react when he leaves, will they not care, or think that their products wont be as good?

Even though most people I know are praising Apple and mac computers, none of them have any idea of who the hell Steve Jobs is. If he dies, I doubt any of those will notice.

Whether or not it'll be reflected in the products, though, no one knows either.
Here is more evidence for my theory:

I think they'll continue to improve, but a Jobs-less Apple is a tough subject. Steve has been at the head of most of the revolutions Apple has made, it depends on how well the next CEO is, and the remaining team. Personally, I think they'll come out all right.
apple sells average/below average products with a phenomenal marketing campaign.
the iphone is no more advanced than other phones, but it's an ~iphone~, so it's better. i don't want a shitty laptop, i want a ~macbook~
they only convince people that apple is the future with good marketing and above-average quality control. and people believe it.
above-average quality control.
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
their quality control is becoming pretty horrible
the only edge they have is ease of use and reality distortion field
quality control is the wrong word, i was thinking build quality
it's midnight fuck
also yes the apple reality distortion field is the cutting edge of marketing
Buy a pc>play some games>install some software>get comfortable with it>slows down>freezes more often>frustration sets in>virus rape>geek squad(if you're stupid)>your wife leaves you>your kids stop respecting you>you lose your house>parents disown you>you kill yourself.
Buy a Mac>enjoy.

But I'll be thrown out of my house anyway? Well, at least my computer isn't slowing down.

Freezing is pretty much where it stops getting any worse, but you've got serious problems if that ever happens. This can even be summed down to:
Buy a pc>being stupid>download shitty programs/toolbars/whatever>computer slows down due to shitty software overload>install shitty/faux "speed-your-pc-up program">have Norton>Take it to some repair man>get it fixed.
Buy a mac>being stupid>no software available>:downs:

you forgot:
Buy a Mac (if you're stupid)>enjoy(if you're stupid)
I normally hate apple products, but a lot of the stuff they showcased in that video is freaking cool. If I ever have a spare $700 I'm gonna buy myself a Mac Mini to have both as a HTPC and for maybe learning to build iOS apps. Now, the one thing that I wish that could be ported over to Windows or Linux is that versions thing. THAT is cool.
What amuses me about Apple is that they hype really pointless things about their devices.
iPhone 4, now in white!!!!1111

iPad, IT'S LARGER THAN AN IPHONE, IT'S A MAGIC REVOLUTION, OR SOMETHING

Their touch screens are the best I have tried so far though

I think the most hilarious thing they're trying to hype right now, is the "Full screen Apps - just like on the iPad!".
It's brilliant.

What so a large screen is pointless on an iPad? That's kind of what makes the fucking iPad in the first place so of course they're going to hype it. Your point there is truly stupid.

Nah, they didn't actually hype the large screen, that was just another thing that botherede me, they made it seem like the iPad was the second coming of Jesus, when it was in fact just a larger iPhone. I guess I could've pointed that out.
