I was wondering if there was a more technical way to record HD from my xbox than wasting 200$ on a video recorder that's probably overpriced. Usually you can do these kind of things yourself for much cheaper, but requires more techinical know-how.
Is it possible, or is HD so advanced that the only way I'll be able to record it is some high end hardware?
So you're asking how to record something without using something to record it? I don't think that's possible.

No I mean I don't want to buy an overpriced converter-box that was specifically made to record hd from an xbox or other device.
Pretty sure if your DVD player has a DVD recording feature you can do it, i dont know how though.

DVDs aren't HD, they're 720x480.
The only way you're going to record HD content is to get an HD video grabber card / device, like this:

There is no "cheap" way around it.
