Is there any website where I can find old rackmounts that people are selling for cheap or throwing away that I could mess around with? They don't have to be anything good, I just want some experience with rackmounts and database networking before I go to college and look like a complete idiot in Computer Science 101. I've scoured Craigslist in my area, and nobody is selling any rackmounts, period. :saddowns: Ah balls, I wasn't really specific, wasn't I? I meant servers, lol
You could try the rackmounts they use for sound amplifiers etc. Some of them have the same mounting system..
ebay. The big problem as I see is that big companies are paranoid about data security. take the company I'm working for at the moment. they're currently paying a company to take off their hands the 771 socket proliant series of rackmounts. That's right, they're paying someone else to take it away from them, on the condition they completely destroy all the data in the machines.

I looked on eBay... the cheapest thing that I saw was a working $500 Sun server. There were only server accessories (bay covers, heatsinks, etc) in the ~200 pages before that. In Germany, there's this auction website where companies that are going out of business can sell all their old stuff. Is there something similar stateside?
