I had to stay in a mental institution for two weeks, a while ago.
If you're somehow curious about anything concerning this, just ask here.

How did you escape?
Whatchainfor
My mom has had some issues on her own and since for a while I looked a bit sad and didn't do much of my free time, she was afraid I may be suicidal on my own (apparently stuff like that is hereditary, the more you know). She asked if I wanted to go talk to a psychiatrist to make sure shit wouldn't hit the fan and considering my studies would eventually force me to leave the house for a month (which will happen soon) and go to the US, it made sense to make a full checkup.
The psychiatrist we saw was kind of a dick and said it would be a good idea to keep me in the local institute for a week and check it all up. I agreed and it ended up being two awfully long weeks which actually fucked my studies more than it helped me.

Crazy shit I just can't admit.
Like asking politely (a lot because ten times a week isn't enough apparently).
Shit. So who else was there?
What did you spend your time doing?
Shit. So who else was there?
A few people around my age (6 of them, if I recall), a bunch of old people and a whole lot of middle-aged persons.
Was the food nice?
Did you make friends with anyone?
What did you spend your time doing?
Spending time with others, drinking a lot of hot chocolate and coffee at the main hall of the hospital, drawing and listening to music.
Most of the time was spent with the few patients that weren't too drugged. Can't say most of the medical staff really made sure we were entertained (with the excuse that we were "here to rest" which seemed to translate into "just lay down and take your pills") so we had to take care of this on our own. There was a lot of people in the medical staff and only a small portion of them were really interested in keeping us busy, the rest just seemed to be there, stay in the staff room and don't do much.
Was the food nice?
Better than most hospital food I got to eat, but not fantastic. The food was at least hot and consistent. Breakfast and 4pm snacks were pretty good. At some point there was a mistake in distribution and they ended up with a ton of chocolate powder, that was amazing.
Did you make any friends or interesting characters worth mentioning?
Did you make friends with anyone?
Yeah, an old lady who was really stressed out by her work (she essentially lied on her qualifications to get the job and she ended up doing work she wasn't ready for, so she needed a good break) and was incredibly nice, a guy my age with paranoid schizophrenia who was also really nice and taught me a few piano things, another student who was pretty much exactly me but female and more depressed, and a very old guy who was always shaking, had huge difficulties to talk and was really curious about everything. There were also two nurses of the medical staff who were really nice. Probably the only ones who would fuck around with the patients and appreciate rather dark humor.

Bit of a tangent but what were/are you studying?
How was it different from Facepunch?
What was the day-to-day process? In terms of activities and schedule
Did you make any friends or interesting characters worth mentioning?
Well there's this old guy I mentioned. Apparently he used to work on aeronaval engineering stuff. He had some speech impediment and was working hard to get rid of it. Didn't really talk to him much but he greeted me every single time I walked past him. At some point though he started listening to the random stupid facts I told everyone to keep them entertained and he came to me to greet me because I was a very good speaker. After that he came up to me several times to ask me random questions. A very interesting guy.
That and a corsican nurse who taught us the weirdest card game ever where we had to draw cards and put them in a pile. Whenever a pair or two following cards adding up to 10 would follow, we had to slam the pile, whenever a Jack came we had to make a military salute and whenever a king or queen came up we had to yell "HELLO SIR" or "HELLO MA'AM". It was surprisingly entertaining.
What was the day-to-day process? In terms of activities and schedule
Pills at 8am, breakfast right after, nothing until 12am, lunchbreak, nothing again till 4pm where we get a snack, empty void until 6:30 PM with dinner (we ate really early), pills soon after, and that's it. They'd also show up with tea at 8pm. You could stay up as long as you wanted but they'd insist a lot on you sleeping if they noticed you stayed up for too long in the night.

Less transgenders.
Bit of a tangent but what were/are you studying?
I'm studying Foreign literature and studies, focused on English. My job is to learn about modern civilization of England and the US, and read their books. It includes a mandatory 3 weeks travel in an English speaking country and a report on local culture.
Were there any batshit people
Was nurse ratched as much of a prick as she's portrayed as?
Do they seriously put people in straitjackets and are there rooms with padded walls?
Were there any batshit people
The most insane person there was in our wing was a middle aged woman who apparently had a severe motorbike accident when she was like 14 and got some severe trauma out of it. She was under heavy medication to stay quite, or else she'd just yell, get aggressive and such. She was obsessed over using the emergency phone to call her dad and was constantly craving for attention, notably by faking crying or by just speaking weird shit out lout until a nurse had to tell her to shut it up.
The actually aggressive people were in the opposite wing, the entrance door was right in front of ours. At some point we got a kleptomaniac/mythomaniac dude who came from here, and who would never stop trying to borrow our cellphones and cigarettes or try to buy us food, while making shit up just to talk to us. At some point he even started talking random shit to some other patient who was blonde and blue-eyed, and ended up saying he probably got all the ladies because he was aryan typed. No one could stand this fucking guy.
Was nurse ratched as much of a prick as she's portrayed as?
We didn't have a nurse ratched, thankfully.
Do they seriously put people in straitjackets and are there rooms with padded walls?
There is one room with padded walls, yeah. It's not an old empty yellow-ish room though, it's blue apparently (haven't been in it, I believe the nurses on that one).
Straight jackets aren't in use anymore. If a patient needs to be restrained in such an emergency, they drug him with an injection. Patients who have been through that kind of emergency usually wear a sort of blue hospital pajama afterward so they are easily recognizable, in case they try to escape or get another fit.
Did anyone write on the wall with their shit.
Ouc'etait? ( Where was the hospital located, in which town ? )
Ever seen the start of House M.D season 6?

South of France.
Do they rape you in a mental institute like in prison?
If so, did you drop the soap?
Did you gain any insights of concepts/structures/wisdom/ideas perceived by the more, mad patients?
I often forget how fascinated I am by the idea and possibility of insanity. Without trying to downplay diagnosed cases as I have never seen or asked a doctor, I thoroughly believe I have had my stint of drug induced madness through stupidity.
not in for murder
uninteresting thread
Did the institution in question have any ghost stories linked to it?
was there TV's or consoles to games play
I've always found the 'Disabled' toilets to be really clean and comfortable, are they the same in the institute?
