I'm looking for a way to have a group of people communicate privately where we cannot be monitored by an outside source. Are there any ways to do this that wouldn't be extremely difficult to explain to 10+ people?

On a serious note, I do know of some chat software with a key file that is distributed on a memory stick etc, but the name escapes me at the moment, I'll see if I can find it.
