I'm getting a new computer soon, but I have many files on this computer that are needed on the new one. How would I go around putting the files on that computer?

Why not just share the drive of the old computer and transfer the files over the network? Saves the cost of an external drive or imaging software.
Bring it to wherever your buying your new pc and make them do it.
