• Installing a GTS 250 Woes

:siren: Giant images, media tag'd. :siren: So face, for science, I just bought a zotac geforce gts250 from tigerdirect, and i'm attempting to install it. So far I've been alright, it's a behemoth of a card and I fit it into my case alright, but the problem comes with the power supply hookup. The 250 has an 8-pin power cord input slot. My PSU has one 6-pin power cord output. The card came with an 8-pin to dual 6-pin converter. I also found this here converter, which takes two of... ...these odd-looking slot-shaped outputs from one of the PSU's cords and turns it into one 6-pin output. So what I tried was hooking up the slot-shaped converter's 6-pin output and the PSU's normal 6-pin output to the card's dual 6-pin to 8-pin converter, and then hooking that up to 250. This is the error I get when starting up. As you can see it starts up correctly initially, no beeping or fan overusage, but when this screen comes up, I cannot get past it. (if you can't read it, it says: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key") Now the card, when it came, had a small sticker over the power supply input that said "Card may not boot properly if both connectors are not connected," which I believe refers to that dual-cord converter that goes into the card's input. Got any ideas Face? I've tried simply connecting only the 6-pin output to the 8-pin input, that gives me the same error screen. Is there any way to split my PSU's cords into two 6-pin outputs, or is it possible to just bypass this operation somehow without affecting performance?
Eh, if your PSU only has one PCI-e 6-pin it probably doesn't even perform well enough to power a GTS 250
Are you missing a thumb? Second picture looks like it.
Eh, if your PSU only has one PCI-e 6-pin it probably doesn't even perform well enough to power a GTS 250
It's a 500w. gts250 needs only 450.
Are you missing a thumb? Second picture looks like it.
looks to me like he's folded his thumb under the plug
uh, a gts 250 has only a 6 pin power connector
well damn, i have a gts 250 and it only has 1 6 pin connection, even the 9800gtx+ has only 1 6 pin
Who was the manufacturer? In other news I've submitted a support ticket to Zotac. In the meantime, can anyone give me any suggestions?
looks like your hard drive isn't getting enough power.
It says check cable. I think you should check your cable.
