• Services subforum

There are a lot of service providers on Facepunch (my Brohoster, Fizzadar's FanaticalVPS, crocoshet's XenonServers, Hexxeh's VPSes) and the threads are kind of scattered everywhere. This makes it hard for users to find what they need and it makes it hard for us to get proper exposure. What I'm proposing is a subforum under H&S dedicated to service providers. I presented the idea to Hezzy, but he wanted me to make a poll. There will be a relatively basic ruleset.
One thread per provider and it can only be posted by the owner/representative of the provider.

No advertising in other provider's threads whatsoever, e.g. 'you are too expensive, go with johndoe hosting'

No negative or defamatory comments or complaints without some sort of proof. This prevents bandwagoning with everyone else saying how they suck. Unless you were an actual client and you know it first hand, your opinion does not count.

Threads are only to be posted by providers, no threads asking about a provider or where you should get one or how dan was boobies.

A referral link does not count as a provider. Don't post them as threads.
The advantages of this are that Facepunch users can now find services for them if they need them in a central location and the providers can have a place to advertise and spread their name easily. It also allows members to weigh their options easier, rather than only finding one provider and then saying 'oh well' and going with them.
Yeah Vote YES!!
I voted yes, this will help both providers and members looking for providers.
Vote YES!
Vote YES this will help the service providers out alot.
yes. Yes. YES.
People seem to like my idea. :3:
You're asking for an advertising sub forum. This is a terrible idea.
Do you always complain about this? I swear you just wait for an opportunity to say 'advertising' or 'spam, lock this'
You're asking for an advertising sub forum. This is a terrible idea.
There's a GMOD server advertising subforum, so what's wrong with a server provider subforum?
You're asking for an advertising sub forum. This is a terrible idea.
Think of it this way, now you won't have to writhe in pain every time you accidentally click on a thread and complain about how it's there.
So there'd be around 6 threads Not worth a subforum IMHO.
So there'd be around 6 threads Not worth a subforum IMHO.
There's more providers than you think.
This doesn't seem like too bad of an idea if there's a decent amount of activity, a cell phone-type forum wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I would say no, start out with a services megathread, but that probably wouldn't work. So, yes.
Didn't there use to be a buying and selling forum here, what happened to it and more importantly why did it disappear...
There's a GMOD server advertising subforum, so what's wrong with a server provider subforum?
This is a gmod forum isn't it?
Do you always complain about this? I swear you just wait for an opportunity to say 'advertising' or 'spam, lock this'
No I only do that with your threads.
Maybe it would be a good idea to do a buy / sell / services forum like the marketplace back in the day
Maybe it would be a good idea to do a buy / sell / services forum like the marketplace back in the day
You really should get that back on the front page again. It was great at times.
Closer knit facepunch community, I'm down. MARKETPLACE do it.
You're asking for an advertising sub forum. This is a terrible idea.
why did you get so stupid?
Vote no. There's not enough content to warrant an entire subforum.
Vote no. There's not enough content to warrant an entire subforum.
71 to 7, I think you're outnumbered
Yes we need this.
Vote no. There's not enough content to warrant an entire subforum.
and it's not like you have to do much work, one guy presses a button and suddenly subforum
A subforum filled with maybe 10 threads?
sounds like this: http://www.facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=169
I'm up for it. The forum may well only get upto ten threads, but if that's a thread per provider, they may be popular threads. Look at JWJ's thread in GD for example.
I voted no, but if I could change my vote I would - add the forum if only to keep all the threads in one place, but I would suggest the rule about only providers being able to create threads be dropped, I think it would be a good forum for all kinds of hosting questions to be asked and answered and keeping these threads in one place would generally be helpful for anyone else with the same questions.
