I'm trying to get a new comuter that can run just about any Source game and Minecraft on the highest settings without a framerate drop. I can re-use the keyboard, mouse, speakers, and moniter, as well as the hard drive, but I don't want to as it is nearly full to bursting. An OS is needed and my moniter's native resolution is 1280x1024. My budget is $1000 USD and I am in the US. I also MUST have a disc drive as I have disc-based stuff, as well as good cooling to keep it from frying.
TL;DR/Don't get it version:
Requirements: All Source games and Minecraft without major FPS drops
Reuseable: Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Moniter
Musts: OS, Optical drive, PROPER COOLING
Moniter Resolution: 1280x1024
Budget: $1000 USD
Location: US
$930 grand total with HARDOCPX5X4B, it'll do everything described above

He has the hard drive.
I know
$1,000 seems extremely excessive for just Source games and Minecraft at such a small resolution.

I'm pretty sure he has the same idea as I have when PC-hunting: "I want to be able to run these as well as anything else I decide to play." Which, to be honest, is a good way to decide what parts are right for you.
[editline]4th May 2011[/editline]
The thing about PC building is that everyone goes "well what do you play often?" when asked about building one, like that's somehow going to determine the exact parts the person needs for their computer. I don't want to be able to play just Source games for, say, 700 dollars, just because I play them often doesn't mean that's all I will use the PC for. I want to be able to play whatever the hell I want to for 700 dollars, there's no way to determine how a PC will hold up for someone based on the games they play most often.
I've got some bad news about the build I was reccommended. I computer expert that works next door says that a reliable i5 utilizing computer would be about $1500. Shit. Anyone got another reccomendation that would be reliable for at least 3 years and cost under $1000? Same criteria apply.

They are either smoking crack or they just have no idea what they are talking about.

I'm not sure if you mean for building one, or if he told you that's how much a PC with one would cost, or what; but that's wrong.

Reliable? It really depends more on the motherboard for reliability.

Ignore that fool
Computer expert next door?
More like computer illiterate guy next door.
That guy is dumb and wrong.
@everyone:
OOPS!!! He didn't say that it was unreliable. My mistake. He said that there were better parts available at the same price. Disregard what I said in my last post. Seriously. Disregard what I said in my last post. I was mistaken. I didn't interpret what he said correctly.
Disregard what he says. That build is absolutely fine and worth it.
Generally if you're spending $750+ you'll want an i5 2500k or a i7 2600k, and unless you KNOW you need the i7 go with the i5. (95% of people should get the i5 over the i7, the hyperthreading doesn't help with games.)
$1000 is certainly enough to make a build with one of the latest gen intel processors and will last a few years
The build up there looks pretty good, although a slightly better gpu might be nice

Yeah, a week ago you could've gotten the same computer, except a GTX 570 for the same price, but Newegg just recycled their combo deals
but that's just how hardware prices work
if you want, you can try waiting for better deals to come in - I can already tell they've added more during the last couple of days

anyways OP if you're going for that build replace the CPU/heatsink for this

save $2 over the 2500K/212+
