• What would be a good gaming PC build today? (AMD)

Lately I've heard (and experienced first hand) that some AMD chip mobos (especially ones made by GIGABYTE) are shit as they always find a reason to hard freeze and be nitpicky with RAM. Intel Z97 seems too expensive for end of cycle. I'm seriously at a loss here, can anyone post a good AMD rig that they have been able to put together recently? Something with 8 or 16gigs decently-clocked RAM running with no problems? I don't want to put together yet another AMD machine only to find out that I can't play in 3D mode for 30 minutes without freezing. I'm especially interested in: -Mobo -RAM -CPU -GPU (should I give in to the GTX900 series or go with Radeon?) Also, if you can, tell me if 850W would be enough power for the build you mention. I'm hearing that people are getting 1.2MW PSUs now... Thanks in advance. [editline]29th March 2015[/editline] Err.. 1.2KWatt, not Mega-. Derp. Not looking to run a powerplant PC here... [editline]29th March 2015[/editline] Would I run into problems with this bad boy and can I OC the RAM to at least 2000? Just FYI, if you're running a single GPU of any sort even a 600W PSU is enough.
Although be sure you buy from a reputable PSU brand: Imagine the PSU as the shelf that holds all of your anime collectibles, you wouldn't want it to fall and break them all now, would you?

OK, so my PSU/case is probably taken care of already. Just gotta swap out that shitty GA-890GPA rev1 build outta there. It's a Corsair TX850 I believe. It does have >2 years of age on it, though. When I'm putting in the new stuff, I'll be sure to vacuum through the fans and shit for sure, although that would probably just mean that less heat would get trapped in the case. I might give it an open and check for any bloated capacitors too. That's usually the first thing that goes bad I'm pretty sure...
The AMD memory controller in FX line CPUs officially does not officially support anything higher then 1866mhz. However there is a QVL list for the Sabertooth 2.0 that has some ram on it thats clocked higher then 1866mhz. [url]http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM3+/SABERTOOTH_990FX_R2.0/Sabertooth_990FX_R20-Memory-QVL.pdf[/url] Most of the ram on that list will be fairly expensive, there is ram that is not on the list, that will work at higher frequencies, or ram that can easily be overclocked. But i wouldn't know. Your best bet would be to ask on something like the overclocker.com or overclock.net forums. Keep in mind that if you go for an FX-9xxx CPU you'll need at least a very powerful air cooler. If you go for a FX-9590 you'll need water cooling. Other good 990FX motherboards would be ASUS 990FX Crosshair V Formula ASRock 990FX Extreme9 Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
I really don't see the benefit of the FX-9 series this late into it's lifespan. You're getting a higher binned chip with an increased TDP, but this late in the manufacturing process any 8 series chip is going to perform just as well at a far cheaper cost. Almost every recently manufactured FX chip can pump out amazing clocks because all the silicon is solid. In fact the lower TDP "e" branded FX-8xxx chips are the go-to choice nowadays because you can clock them sky high.
Kinda depends on if you want to play the product binning lottery or not. Chances are you get a shitty FX-8 and you won't get more then a few hundred mhz OC out of it. Its not like the FX-9590 is very expensive anymore if you want to go down that route, its only 220 dollars.

You can get the aforementioned low TDP one for $99 if you look around.
