I'm after getting one of the new DDR3 compatible processors. I'm currently running a C2D @ 3.00GHZ and fancied upgrading to something a little more future proof.
The Phenom II black edition looks very good for the price, 3.4ghz quad core for £140. Bargain of the century it seems. However I'm tempted to get an i5, a 3.00ghz one is a fair bit more expensive but how do they fair against each other?
I plan on running 4gb of DDR3, alongside an ATi 5770.
Core i5s are more efficient clock for clock, and last time I checked (January), the Core i5-750 2.66GhZ beat out Phenom II 965 BE 3.4GhZ by a considerable margin.
You might need to check latest comparisons, but based on what I've seen I'd say the i5 is the best choice if you have some extra money to spare.
holy shit stop making these threads theres already 2 others about the same shit
i5 750 is the only i5 worth bothering with, the others are overpriced because they have integrated graphics which you don't need

Type N search.
Go for the i5!
Doesn't matter which one you get if you're just playing games, but the i5 is a little faster in other areas.
Go with whichever is cheaper in the end. Both great processors.
