Ok, so lately I have been installing all of my pc games onto my computer, it all went well until I tried to install Call Of Duty 4, about half way through the installation it fucks up and says it cannot install, so im guessing that the game disc is corrupted, meaning that I have tried to install it multiple times, so what I am wondering, is it illegal to torrent the game if I already own it and the installation is fucked?
Yes.
Torrenting games is illegal, irregardless if you bought it already.
No not technically. It's like downloading a rom of an old game. You have to own it before you can download it. Because you already paid for it so why not?
Plus who the fuck cares pirate away!
Torrenting cod4 for multiplayer use, and using your own key is legal as far as i know, but i might be completely wrong. I've done that, as the key seems to be all that matter. You can just patch it to the latest version.
You wouldn't download a car...

I bet your gonna say that pirating is also stealing too

would if i could :v:
This is what Ask.com says on the matter:
Ask.com:
No, it isn't. The law on such says it is only legal if you make the copy from your own legally-obtained version. So if you somehow manage to make an adapter that lets you plug your GBA games to your computer and make the ROM yourself, it's legal. But if you get the ROM from anyone else, it's not legal.
There is however some gray area on this, as the law also stated that there should be a way for the consumer to make an archival copy of their software themselves, and with console/handheld games, that's not the case. So if someone were willing to fight, they might be able to get this made legal through the courts. As of yet, though, it hasn't happened.
There you have it. Personally though, I say go ahead, since you already gave the developers/publishers your hard earned cash.
Btw, the guy who answered was replying to downloading a GB game, but the law still applies.

Good enough, I was just wondering.

Its like 670 TB... i dont have that many TB's.
Yes it is, considering you automatically upload with Torrents. Spreading copyright protected material is illegal any way you turn it.
There have been cases of people getting in deep shit for downloading porn because it was considered spreading sexually explicit material to children. (Children COULD have downloaded it.)
[editline]15th August 2011[/editline]
Its easy for copyright holders (or the companies they hire these days to do that) to pick your IP out of torrents. If they want to send you a cease and desist letter its going to be about "uploading" anyway, not downloading, so it doesn't matter that you bought it.
If you use the key that you BOUGHT then technically no.
[editline]15th August 2011[/editline]
But downloading them is indeed illegal.

Of course, most of the time people get downed in court because they tried to use the product without legit registration to use such product.
Sort of a legal greyzone.
Just activate the code on steam numbnuts

Its not a steam game.
It's not illegal to download if you already paid for it.
Yes it is. There is no exception where filesharing copyrighted material is legal. There is no greyzone.
If there were, one must ask,, Is it okay to download something you bought a few minutes ago, just because you don't want to break the game packaging? What if you lost your cd, should that be okay? What if you bought a game several years ago and have since then thrown the game away - is it still okay to replace it via filesharing?
No. It's never legal. Stupid laws, but what else is new..
Its not a steam game.
I have one of those games that came out before it came on steam, like with CoD 4, I have Fallout 3, which also was not on steam when I got it.
Yep, same for me. Clearly i'd register my cod4 key on steam if i could.
I have an old Deus Ex, but it has no CD key so no steam for me. Ill have to send in a ticket to Steam Support.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is not accepted on Steam.
You can only buy it from Steam for it to work with Steam.
I thought you were legally allowed to download one extra backup copy.
The topic is still highly debatable.
From my own knowledge when you purchase a game you purchase the license to play that game. I personally don't see anything in the TOS that says I'm only allowed to play that exact copy in the case I bought.
Honestly, I don't know why you want to torrent a game, they're buggy and shitty.

Its legal as long as you use your CD key afaik.
Torrenting a game would clearly be illegal because you also share the content with others, however I'm not sure about overall obtaining a game from less-than-legal sources, because paying for a game, you pay for the right to play it (You don't actually buy it's content for full use, but only for playing it in the game).
So having paid already for the right to play the game, I'm not sure whether obtaining it in a different way would be illegal or not. To clarify, torrenting it would definitely be illegal.
Honestly, I don't know why you want to torrent a game, they're buggy and shitty.
Then why do paying customers get stuck with drm/bugs when pirates do not?

I have an external HD with 2 TB of space. I put my steam shit in there
I tried finding a car on The Pirate Bay but all the search turned up was porn.
