Does anybody here own a Samsung Galaxy S3 or S4? If so, did you get any issues with your external SD? I have this 32GB PNY Class10 MicroSD and while I was using it in my Galaxy S3, something broke (right after a ROM flash) and I had to spend an hour figuring out why it stopped reading. After two quick formats to FAT32 16kB/Block, I managed to get it to work by stopping a full format half way (aka scrambling the fuck out of the data) and then to quick format it to exFAT 16kB/Block. That's not all.
Later I switched to a Galaxy S4 and found that the card didn't mount (well, whaddya know). I had to wipe all my shit (again) and format it back to FAT32. Now it works. What is the deal, Samsung? Why is MicroSD support so iffy?!
This leads me to wonder this:
Is there a good 64GB SDXC that I can buy, format the fuck out of, and finally enjoy uninterrupted storage on the S4? If so:
what class?
what manufacturer?
what filesystem to format to?
what block size?
If anybody has answers as to what the Galaxy S4 prefers in terms of and MSD, that would be great. It's not that I'm going through any issues right now but it would be great to find out exactly what the fuck Samsung expects from the user when they say that one can "put in a MicroSD up to 64GB".
Also I have heard that some MicroSD manufacturers have high tolerance or ignorance to defective units hitting shelves. Could I be a victim or am I just formatting like a retard?
You should format it in the galaxy, will give it whatever formatting it prefers rather than screwing around with computer formating.
I've heard recently a few problems with pny cards but id say thats coincidence, manufacturer shouldnt matter (unless your buying something silly like duracell, but anything like sandisk, lexar etc should be good)
Get a class 10, its speed and better to have more
If its any help, I hear samsung branded Micro sd cards tend to work the best. Well whaddya know.
I am not sure about PNY. I've got a Kingston and A-DATA and both mount on my Note 2.
I would try another card if possible. Sometimes you want to eliminate an obvious hardware problem before you bang your head on the wall too much.
I have a sandisk 64gb sdxc in my s4. Formatted as exfat. Should work natively on your phone, unless you rooted it and flashed a new rom. Which in that case, you will have to flash another mod to enable it.
I also use a Sandisk SDHC 32GB card in my S4, and it worked without problems the moment I plugged it in, it's still formatted from my old phone too.

I've got the same card in my S1 formatted to FAT32. Works fine.
I just use exfat so I'm not limited to 4gb.
I'd use ExFat but it only has limited compatibility on my phone due to it being an ancient phone. Each kernel update though seems to be working on getting ExFat to run right.

I do check for that. Once I had a tiny piece of lint blocking one of the pins on a USB flash drive, lol.
