• Replacing my 8800GT, no idea what's best.

I haven't really looked at graphics cards since i purchased it, so I'm completely clueless about what's good right now. Should I buy a card now, or wait if anything is coming out in the near future? PSU is 650w, if that's an issue. Price range would probably be $350 or less.
What exact model is your PSU [editline]12:01AM[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102857&cm_re=5850-_-14-102-857-_-Product If the PSU is good enough
It's a Cooler Master Realpower Pro 650w
5850 looks to be the best choice
8800 GT still rocks man.
Yes your PSU is fine for the 5850, get that.
Will the Nvidia 300s, or AMDs next line of cards be coming out soon enough to matter, or should I go ahead and get the 5850 now?

I'm still a bit worried that the 300 series will come out this year, and either be a much better choice, or drive the 5850's price down.
depends how long you're willing to wait really also if it's a "portable" case, check it's big enough to hold a 5850
Case size isn't a problem, I have a giant case I can move it to. portable case (to the right of the monitor) not portable case
Not portable case is fucking massive. That or everything else is tiny. [editline]04:44AM[/editline] Can I have it?
It looks like a safe.
I would wait for the 300 nvidia series. Also if you are in a hurry Ati's 5850 is an awesome choice! If you want to stick with nvidia buy a GTX280 or 275. But I recommend the 5850
hahah omg wut dat nvidia suck homo lolol ati cool lolol
well they do have the better + cheaper cards
well they do have the better + cheaper cards
Every gap between card releases oozes out idiots that think the war is over and their brand has successfully curb stomped the competitor. After a few years you'll realize that fanboyism is pretty pointless. It's expected to be attached to your first few big purchases or gifts but after a while most people grow out of feeling the need to defend their purchases. As far as the OP goes, I say wait as long as you possibly can because it's always best, no matter what brand, lower prices and possibly faster hardware. The 5850 would be your best choice if you had to buy a card right now, but if you can wait then do so.
well they do have the better + cheaper cards
right now I'm starting to think the price difference is worth it to see fantards like you have a spack about it

Have alook at a GTX 280 or a 5Series from ATi. Just makesure your CPU ant gonna bottle neck it.
Op what are the rest of your specs. Also the gtx 300 series got delayed again. Supposedly for availability you should expect march.
Assuming I get the 5850, and a AMD Phenom II 955, any reccomendations for a good reliable motherboard that's not too expensive?
Why on earth would you replace an 8800GT? it's still capable of playing the newest games on high settings. I have the phenom II x4 955 and it's good though, so I'd go for that. I have this. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160850

ATI released a new series of cards two months ago, where have you been?

I'm very curious as to why Nvidia doesn't release the 300 series for Christmas. If you ask me that's probably the smartest time to release any product.
