Got myself a copy of Dark Souls III because of this deal.

I picked up Scholar of the First Sin because it's like $10 and why not
especially because regular DS2 is still $40 and the upgrade is $30 extra :v:

You know, I thought about getting DSII as well, but a lot of folks I've talked to said that it would be better to just skip that one and go straight for DSIII. Can't remember their exact reason, but I think it had something to with the game not being "in line" with the first Dark Souls or something along those lines.

It's pretty good, just the worst in the series imo

"Worst" in the series is still a very good game either way so long, yeah
skipping it would be very silly. It does a lot of things better than even DS3, and a lot of things bad too.
being able to actually cancel estus chuggers out because of the timed heal is one thing thats great... but the healing items is another thing, which is shit.
You can't reasonably play a pvp mage in ds3, but in ds2 it works really well

Apparently the enemy tracking is pretty OP as hell, there's a lot of times where they just throw a bunch of enemies at you, and they made grinding harder.
But for $10 when the game is $40 regular and never gets this cheap ever, there wasn't a reason to not get it.
I'll probably consider grabbing a copy of DSII some time soon as well, then. Might as well complete the series if it's that cheap.

It has a lot of content, especially with the DLCs, and the weapons are all pretty well balanced so its possible to use whatever you want mostly, but most of the subtle design decisions that DS1 had were tossed out the window in favour of making the game more difficult, often going the wrong way about it.

I've noticed this in the 113 minutes I've played of it.
I think I'm going to refund it and skip to DS3 whenever it drops in price, because DS2 just really isn't hitting the "challenging but fair" point that DS1 did.
from software ruined purist magic/pyro builds in ds3 and it pisses me off
I could pick any spell in ds2, even soul shower and I could make good use of it
in ds3 because your so slow you literally can't get a hit off even with dex high enough and sage ring
that and the fact that estus chugging is faster and instant, being ranged makes you worthless. In DS2 it was slow so they had to run away and chug, so you could hit them with soul shower spam and punish them, even if they sip their health didn't instantly recover
oh yeah cool some people make it work out. But it totally sucks now and it's not fun at all, because you're limited to an insanely small meta of spells that ~maybe~ work out.
people can talk about how shitty ds2 was, but dragonbro fights in PVP were insanely fun because it was fair and you could actually USE magic. The healing items were really stupid, and DS3 does flasks better than 2 and 1, but the healing SYSTEM is broken.
It's even better when you find someone who cheat engined their divine healing in ds3 so they have unlimited instant heals.

Every single person who justifies this instant heal shit in DS3 is a fool who never learned how to actually fight in ds2. Yes, you SO can punish estus chuggers in ds2, I've done it. I've also tried in in ds3, and no, it never works.
Lets not forget how assinine it is that I can no longer use swords in the left hand properly. My best build was a zweihander and lance, and now instead of a heavy attack I just block. Come on dude what.
I can't get into DS2 anymore after having played the blazing fast and fluent gameplay from DS3.

um I'm pretty sure people's issue with DS2 is that when it tries to be more difficult, it just throws multiple enemies at the same time that you can't reliably dodge instead of being fair
DS2's difficulty overall is far easier than DS1 besides of those bullshit moments with multiple enemies, their individual moveset is a lot simpler, easier to dodge and counter
For me DaS3 got boring way faster than i expected it to be, and due to that several characters i planned before never saw the light of day, it didn't need faster gameplay and throwing away things DaS2 did best IMHO. As for magic builds, i tried playing spellsword in DaS3, it wasn't fun, at all, unlike in DaS1 where it was ACTUALLY fun.
It took me some time to get into DaS2 back after DaS3, so its very possible to get back into it. Every game in the series have their fair share of problems, and while DaS2 had a troubled development and suffered because of it, i value it over DaS3 for its replayability, build variety, and that it tried to be different.
And skipping is dumb, you are missing out on good amount of content this way.
Got a copy for my boyfriend

I'm still mad about that. I buy a game at launch for $60. I buy all the DLC for another $30 or 40. A short while after the last DLC comes out they announce they're rereleasing the game with all the DLC. I think to myself, no worries I already have it all. "Haha, no. It's a different game now. We moved shit around and made it so you're incompatible with the other players. Long story short, fuck you pay me again."
Owning the game and all the DLC gets me nothing but the right to a $30 upgrade instead of buying the whole thing at $40. This sale is finally an excuse to get it though.

I take this back, got into a discussion with my friend about it while we were playing some comp CSGO, turns out some of what I was having problems with are actually totally fine and I had misconceptions.

Yeah, I got to some knight boss and the only reason I didn't kill his ass was because I didn't have more than one weapon (which broke) or more than one healing item (all I had was one estus flask equipped because it didn't occur to me I could throw life gems in there too) because his tracking was nonexistent and his weapon was easy to avoid.
God Eater 2 is on sale as well, Gonna buy the shit out of that since I'm a massive Monster Hunter fan.
