I have acquired a bitching stereo system. But do to various reasons it has to reside in the livingroom. I would like to stream music to it, but I hate using apple hardware (or software for that matter) so I would really really rather avoid an airport express. Are there any alternatives? Google has not been my friend this time. Pretty much all queries lead to torrents of macrumours threads with people saying "HURRRR WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO USE ANYTHING ELSE?"
You could try buying a media box (I haven't had much experience/time with them) but I heard you can connect a sort of box to your stereo, which sets up a wireless/wired (through your router) box you can send data to. Sorry, I'm not much help with this, but I know these things exist.
I don't know why you want a stereo system that would be bitching. But I guess thats your forte. What hardware did you get with your bitching stereo system. Please exclude the PMS module.
Set up a media center PC? I'm sure you can use an xBox 360, old laptop, and some DVRs to do this.

You could be cheap and go completely analogue. Get a pair of those RF video/audio senders and just use the audio portion. One end in your pc audio output and one in the hifi audio input.
Make a cheap media box
