I currently have 2 GBs of RAM installed in a PC built by a small computer shop, the motherboard is an ASUS P5K-SE EPU.
I have never opened up a PC before.
What I'd like to know is whether I need the exact same sticks of RAM, or whether extra sticks of RAM need to be at the same speed/other specific, and if there are any tips that are absolutely necessary for me to know if I actually do go ahead with self-installation.
As long as it is DDR2 it will work, however i recommend getting the same speed as your current RAM is, else it will lower the speed of all modules to a speed they can all handle (Lets say your slowest RAM module runs on 667MHz and you get one on 1333MHz, then it will force the faster 1333MHz to 677MHz).
I looked up your motherboard and you need DDR2 Ram, with a max speed of 1200. You are unlikely to buy anything higher than that anyway. You can mix different speeds of sticks and brands, as long as they aren't over 1200 or are DDR3. You're fine!
Actually I think it can be 1333MHz as Kialtia mentioned, but the standard for your Mobo is 1200.
I think Speccy tells you your RAM's speed.
I have an old system with 2 sticks of 256 MB DDR 400, and a 1GB DDR 400.
Works just fine, you shouldn't worry unless they have different speeds
