• Windows cannot install to SSD in AHCI mode

I'm having trouble installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Micro Center 64GB SSD (A-Data S599). When I go to install windows, I do custom installation and on the drive list, when I select my SSD it give me the following error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.
I can create/delete partitions just fine (within the windows installation thing) but I just can't install on the SSD. I've tried the following to no avail:

unplug all other drives (except usb dvd drive that I'm installing from)
move ssd to sata port 0
use AMD's AHCI driver
different sata cables
several ata secure erases
formatting ssd to ntfs before installation
updating bios
I also tried updating the firmware on my ssd using adata's firmware update utility but it didn't recognize the drive. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to get Windows to cooperate?
Yes. I have it set so all connected SATA devices operate on AHCI mode. [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] Going to try to install in IDE mode then switch to AHCI after installing windows. I'll post some results if everything goes well. [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] I got Windows installed on the SSD in IDE mode, then I switched to AHCI mode (within Windows by changing a registry entry), then switched to AHCI mode in BIOS. But, BIOS doesn't see the SSD when it's in AHCI mode, so I can't boot to it. I'm not really sure what to do from here.
if you install in ide mode switching to AHCI mode will BSoD you installation.
Incorrect
I'm to to experienced with ssds but I'm thinking that your ssd's AHCI setting is busted. Or try to update your motherboard Bios. Or see if the drive works in another pc.
I went to Micro Center and exchanged my SSD for a new one and Windows installer recognized it and I'm installing win7 onto it right now. I guess it was the disk after all.
Incorrect
Of course it will BSoD without taking any action like in your link, so bootv2 is as right as you.
