-$2000 budget
-Used for gaming (current games and future ones)
-I already have a mouse, monitor, keyboard, and sound system.
-OS does not need to be included in the build.
-I live in the United States.
-This is my first time building a computer, so any useful guides you can link to would be great.
I really wouldn't recommend spending that much on a computer at once
Here, I have one for $1250, in my opinion you really don't have to spend much more than that, unless you want more HDDs, Heatsink, Blu-Ray drive, or a bigger SSD.

Keep the rest of the money for future upgrades.

Nice, I was just thinking about making a thread similar but an upgrade, good thing I searched the section first.
In my case, I'm wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 (64-bit) and know it's going to be a big hassle to figure out what I need. I got my computer roughly 5 years ago, with the only upgrade being my graphics card (upgraded to Nvidia GTS 250). My hard drive is 320 GB which really sucks for me even though I haven't filled it fully yet. What I want to do is buy newer parts (and reuse my old ones) to put in this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133176.
I'll just add this list:
-Not too expensive, less than $1,000.
-I don't need a graphics card (GTS 250), a power supply (750 Watt), soundcard (Soundblaster Audigy), DVD drive, and main fan (I'm all set on speakers, mouse, keyboard, and monitor)
-I'll need a larger Hard Drive (my current is 320 GB)
-I want to upgrade to 64-bit so I'm guessing I need a new CPU (current: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz) and motherboard?
-Need more RAM (current: 2GB)
-I'm buying Windows 7 but my dad wants to use his business account so that won't be needed in this
-Anything else?
Tutorials/guides on how to build a PC (and take apart PC) will also be very helpful in my case. If anyone can put together a list for me that will upgrade my PC to run newer and future games, I would appreciate it a lot.

OK, I used some of the links Jaihead posted (including the animated guide) and added them to a cart and it's not that bad. Are there parts I should change in this list or anything?

Made a thread for it.

you should make your own thread, you'll get more help that way
Will do.
Okay, so I have been looking more into parts today, and I have to say that I am quite confused. There are so many terms in hardware that I have never heard of, so I have some questions.
As far as CPU, I am leaning toward the i7 2600, but I don't know about 2600K vs. 2600. Could someone please explain the difference between the two?

the K cpus are unlocked for overclocking, if you pair them up with a P67 mobo
if this is just for gaming then an i7 is pointless and you're better off with a i5 2500k
