• Suspected Graphics Card Problem

Right, I seem to have run into an interesting problem which I can't find the source of. My old PC: MSI Platinum PowerUp Edition 975x Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz 4GB DDR2 800MHz XFX Radeon 4870 Enermax Noisetaker 600W Now, The 4870 was a recent addition as of about a year ago, the rest of the machine was built in 2006. Towards the end of this PCs life, when playing games they generally seemed to start caking out after about 90 minutes of gameplay. By cacking out I mean the pc would suddenly cease sending a signal to the monitor, sound would continue though. This was irritating, but as I was going to replace it soonish I didn't think much of it, just that the motherboard was reaching the end of its lifespan. I got a new PC: ASUS P8P67 Intel Core i5 2500k 4GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair HX650W And dumped the 4870 in there. However, again I still have the issue with the PC stopping sending a signal to the screen, except now its barely 20 minutes of gameplay before it gives up. I initially suspected that it might be a temperature issue, and indeed the card is running hot. 90 degrees under load, so to test if that was the issue I ran Prime95 on all 4 cores of the cpu and FurMark at 1080p for 1 hour. The PC turned into a radiator, but was fine. This confused me, and frankly I have no idea what the problem is. I now suspect that the 4870 is just fecked. Any suggestions?
you seem to have answered yourself. You transfered the card from the old system to the new and still had the same issue right......
Same issue, slightly different manifestation. What I want to know is why the card is doing that.
Card is fucked, unless you have any overclocks going for whatever reason.
Check for dust, and regulate fan speed with MSI afterburner or simply Catalyst control center (though I dislike the way you control the fan in it).
I dismantled the graphics card heatsink, cleaned it entirely and replaced the thermal paste on the GPU to no avail. The card was never overclocked. Forcing 100% fan speed during operation also had no effect. Just a fucked card I suppose, odd after only 13 months though. I have an X800 Pro from 2004 still running strong. Ordered a new card, cba to fight with it anymore. Cheers for the suggestions.
