• Newly put together rig, doesn't seem to boot

Just got my new rig and have been trying all day hoping for it to work, with no success. I'm not sure what I did wrong, since this is my first time. Though I have a suspicion it's some of the cables inside. Video [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k8ruG0IMms[/media] Specs [media]http://filesmelt.com/dl/Build-11.png[/media] Pictures I don't have time to downscale, sorry. Did you use standoffs? Also, check all cables. If that doesn't work then take out 1 stick of memory then try each one separately.
"Not boot" meaning what? Stopping in POST? Running but no display? Not starting up at all? For starters, you could connect the second power input on the gpu.
I'm not sure what stand offs are. I've also tried to take it apart putting it back together. When I took all the ram out it still happened.
and by could i mean should
[QUOTE=Murkrow;29725586]"Not boot" meaning what? Stopping in POST? Running but no display? Not starting up at all? I wasn't sure if I was supposed to use both power input. I'll have to go to sleep soon though so I might stop responding, but thanks for the help so far.
[QUOTE=Tinter;29725611]I'm not sure what stand offs are. I've also tried to take it apart putting it back together. When I took all the ram out it still happened.[/QUOTE] Stand off are those little gold things you put in and screw the mobo into. Otherwise, all the little solder joints on the mobo touch the case.
These are standoffs. [img]http://www.jbtech.com/shop/images/atrex/acc%20bag%20standoff.jpg[/img] also was there really no 6 pins on the PSU? and don't you need both 6 pins plugged in. I don't know because I had one that needed to have it plugged in and one that would clock down and just use bus power.
why the hell do you have a molex to PCI-E adapter, the hx650 has 4 PCI-E power connectors
It didn't work. :frown: [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] I did find another cable that i could plug both into.
I can see the video came out way darker than it should have. I'm goong to record a new one. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] I just took out all the parts except the motherboard and power supply. It still didn't work. And to describe the problem best I can, it turns on I can hear the fan spinning and some leds turn on, it stays like that for a second then turns off, then without me touching the power switch it turns on again. It repeats this few times and then the fans spin really fast. I have to then cut off power before it stops the cycle.
Cycles like that would mean, as far as my knowledge goes, that the motherboard is shot. I had the same thing happen after a failed mobo flash. RMA the motherboard.
Added a new video that doesn't suck.
You haven't pluuged in both 6-pin PCI-E connectors, as far as I can observe. Did you plug in the 4-pin CPU power connector?
So did you use standoffs or not?
Are you sure of this? I want to be sure that's what's wrong before I send it back and then have it happen again. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] I did use standoffs, and if you look in the video you can see that it has been clean of everything except for the motherboard and psu.
I have exact the same problem , with the same case
Is it the same motherboard?
You have to plug both PCI-E cables, I just remembered my Pc used to spin the fans fast when both wasn't in, and also sometimes even when they was in I had to push them a bit more or jiggle the cable to really make sure and it worked.
I tried when both was in and it didn't work, now with nothing in it it still dosen't work.
In the video, is it just me, or do you not have a CPU plugged in? Also it wont start without the CPU fan plugged in. I saw there was one in the pics, just checking.
I guess the PSU might not be enough then.
As said I tried with everything plugged in and with only the motherboard and psu plugged in, it works neither of times. But I can try again with the cpu also plugged in.
[QUOTE=Blaberry;29738406]In the video, is it just me, or do you not have a CPU plugged in? Also it wont start without the CPU fan plugged in. Same result except it stays on a little longer. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] It's to show what happens, and it still happens when everything is plugged in, so I wasn't going to bother plugging it all in for just short video where the same thing was going to happen.
Sounds like it's the PSU. It is too weak. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] Try removing the graphics card and powering it on.
Disregard everything in this thread, it works now. I wanted to try and put it together one last time before finally giving up, it now boots properly and prompts me for a boot media. Thanks for the help I guess? :v:
Good to hear and I'm glad to and try to help you, even if it didn't work.
I guess it did help in some way. [editline]10th May 2011[/editline] Thanks for all the suggestions anyway, I'm glad that I see some people care about my own problems.
What was wrong? Combination of you not plugging the PCI-E and the CPU in at the same time or what?
