I'm planning to upgrade my cpu. Was jsut wondering do I just pull my old one off and replace it? or is there a proper way to do it. I know how to apply paste and what not. Just never really replaced a cpu on an old computer before.
It's not that hard, just make sure to be careful not to touch any of the pins in the socket or on the cpu. Also make sure that the little triangles are aligned. And last, don't push down on the CPU AT ALL when putting it in the socket. No force is necessary, just gently place it down and that should be it.
also there is an arm that i would suggest you swing up when you want to release the cpu from the socket's grasp also methinks you should keep it up until you gently rest the cpu on the socket's surface then swing the arm gently down after verifying the correct allignment of the cpu as per the arrows on the cpu and the socket respectively. then gently swing the arm down place the thermal paste on the cpu and put the heatsink on. the end.
