• Online Account Rights

To what extent do end-users retain over the control of their online accounts? Does it differ in regional jurisdictions? For example, if I were to create an account on a site (GameBattles), up to whose discretion is it for that account to either be withheld in the database or deleted as per requested by the user? Personally, it's not an out of sight, out of mind issue. If it's still in a database of a site that I don't frequent anymore, I do not want it in the database. It's a matter of principle and security. Thoughts?
I would think that it's up to the admins for account deletion rather than anything legal (unless there's legal reasons for account deletion). The way I've seen it is some admins will delete the account upon request, others will leave it alone and some go through a procedure before deletion. If they don't delete it, you could just snip all the profile info.
