Viewing desktop computer screen on a laptop screen?

Ok here is what i want to do. I have 1 flat screen monitor plugged into my gaming pc. and my laptop. i work on computers a lot and im sick of swapping the monitor back and forth all the time. So basically, i was wondering if there was a way that i could take a VGA cable, hook it up to my laptop and the desktop, and somehow view the desktops screen, on my laptops screen. Ill still plug an extra keyboard and mouse into the desktop, i just need a screen. so is there some kind of software to allow me to do this? Thanks!
The VGA port is an output, not an input. So it won't work.
You could use some VNC software. No need for a VGA cable. Or an extra keyboard/mouse. You couldn't do anything heavy like play games, though.
No VNC isnt waht i need. i need to be able to see them like before they even have an os on them.

Unless you use a RJ-45 Video card it is not possible.
VNC, or a monitor switchbox

2 VGA inputs and one VGA output.
toggled by the huge switch on the front

you can play games on it, I've done it over LAN before at a staggering raw 11FPS with 16bit colour.
