I just updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 (Which has been a painfully slow process by the way). Now that I am almost done (after 2 hours) I noticed something strange about the storage indicator in iTunes.

(Andet means Other in Danish)
Does anyone have ANY idea about what this is and/or how to remove it? I'm not willing to waste about 1/3 of the phones capacity on something I don't know what is.
Google only showed solutions involving restoring the phone to default which would suck ass.
UPDATE: Just as I hit "create thread" It went down to 700 mb. What the fuck!?. Oh well.
Still updating, so I have no idea what it is.
I'm still pissed at how I payed for 32GB of capacity and got 29GB.
That is due to differences in how software and hardware reports bits and bytes.

Operating system and formatting is a space whore

Other tends to be existant when files are not yet catagorized.
Have you been into your music/video apps yet? Mine did the, and. Music & video the tracks were there but not playable. It may be the same for you, if so just uncheck sync songs, sync it, re-check, sync again, and all should be fine.
yeah mine now has 2.2 gig of other after updating
EDIT: it went away.
My update wasn't to slow quicker than I expected it to be. Downloading and installing was the fastest process but restoring apps is being a bitch. Hopefully won't run into to many problems when finished.
