Instead, the team was going to focus entirely on PC
interesting
making a console version ultimately made the game better across all platforms.
Oh please. Do tell. How did putting more stress on the team to produce more made the game better.
Oh please. Do tell. How did putting more stress on the team to produce more made the game better.

Titanfall runs on the Source engine, but to get it running on Xbox One, the team had to make significant modifications to ensure it ran in 64-bit and supported DX11. "Part of the conversion gave us the opportunity to re-architect the engine and make it more like we wanted it to be on the memory side," Baker said. "A lot of the work was making the engine multi-threaded. The original Source engine had a main thread that built up a command buffer for the render thread and there was a frame of delay. We kind of changed that so the render thread buffered commands as soon as they were issued."
by making it multi-threaded and use dx11
Oh please. Do tell.
Good thing they aren't doing the 360 version themselves then :v:
I imagine in the coming years that is going to be the case with a lot of games. That's what happened with the PS2.
I imagine in the coming years that is going to be the case with a lot of games. That's what happened with the PS2.
It's happening with multiplats too, for the Wii U that is. Seems live devs are off loading last gen and Wii U versions/ports of their games to other companies to make the game and work on its patches. But in the Wii U's case it's a bit more decent since it's usually a team within the main dev (except Watch Dogs) so patching and such is slighty easier.
by making it multi-threaded and use dx11
what part of that isn't something you could focus on when developing strictly for PC
You don't need it to be multi-threaded and DX11 on PC, but it's a requirement for XBone.
You don't need it to be multi-threaded and DX11 on PC, but it's a requirement for XBone.
they should, regardless of what consoles they support. there's massive performance increases when you upgrade to DX11.
And that's why they said it was a good thing for PC. [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] I should say it was probably Microsoft's requirement for the game to be multi-threaded/DX11.
i wonder how much microsoft paid
i wonder how much microsoft paid
Probably more than you or I will see in two years.
Probably more than you or I will see in two years.
more like in our lives.
i wonder how much microsoft paid
A good chunk, and access to their Azure servers.
Are there any Mountain Dew or Doritos for Titan Fall yet?
I thought EA signed a deal behind respawns back with making it be on xbone, thus why they had to make it work on it?
they should, regardless of what consoles they support. there's massive performance increases when you upgrade to DX11.
Should isn't need
I remember reading that they´ve chose source specially because of good PS3 support, which is odd considering there´s no Sony ports for the game, this explains that a bit.
They've been quoted saying that they have a running version of the game on PS3, but they said that shortly before it was reveiled to be a Microsoft exclusive. But according to someone at Respawn, can't remember who, the first Titanfall game is an exclusive and future titles may appear on other systems.
I thought EA signed a deal behind respawns back with making it be on xbone, thus why they had to make it work on it?
yeah, some of the devs tweeted about it and seemed shocked
But according to someone at Respawn, can't remember who, is that the first Titanfall game is an exclusive and future titles may appear on other systems.
I think it's really too early for the to say something like that. Microsoft and Sony both have a lot of money to give to companies willing to make their game artificially exclusive.
I wonder if they'll every port to PS4. I wonder, did Microsoft have them by the balls or something? Cause releasing this game on PS4 would have made it even bigger.
what part of that isn't something you could focus on when developing strictly for PC
nothing, but as a requirement to run on xb1 it forced them to make improvements they otherwise probably wouldnt have considered worth the cost
I really hope Respawn remains the owner of their IP.
what part of that isn't something you could focus on when developing strictly for PC
Basically making an XBone port forced them to actually optimize the game instead of releasing on more or less vanilla source which isn't all that great by today standard.
