AVG is the first thing came to mind when I read the threads title. Why am I not surprised.
I've been removing AVGs "tune up" bullshit from customer machines ever since it came into existence, and for good reason.
Of course it's AVG.
is there even a good antivirus software around anymore that isn't super expensive.
is there even a good antivirus software around anymore that isn't super expensive.
I have used avast for several years and it works fine once you turn off the annoying sounds
There's also Avira which year on year hits top marks for detection, though it does show a nag notification once a day on the free version.
I use Malwarebytes free version.
is there even a good antivirus software around anymore that isn't super expensive.
Avast isn't terrible, though I feel they're getting a bit worse than they used to be. They used to have the free version, then a 'pro' version, but since so many people use the free version they introduced a "premium" version and try to push all users onto it. I had a friend get eset nod32 and he has had absolutely no problems with it, it has also had a lower performance impact. It's what I'm going to move to once my pro subscription of Avast runs out. Though, if you're an advanced user who feels confident you can forego antivirus in most cases, only relying on MSE and malwarebytes when you think something is off.
After Malwarebytes detected a few things that AVG didn't, I moved to Avast. But it became quickly annoying with its aggressive adds poping up, so I'm now running with Norton. While Malwarebytes isn't an antivirus, I would say the pro version offers some solid protection.
i haven't needed anything other than windows defender and malwarebytes for years
Control Now/GFI Cloud is most OP antivirus I've ever experienced, but you can only buy a minimum of 10 licenses. They aren't too expensive, though.
is there even a good antivirus software around anymore that isn't super expensive.
360 Total Security. It's so good its outright picky to some software and has a lot of false positives due to that.
sophos is supreme but expensice
I use Panda anti-virus. And scan with malware bytes every so often.
I use Panda anti-virus. And scan with malware bytes every so often.
Panda, the antivirus that flagged itself as malware and bricked machines :v:
Don't really need an anti-virus other than what the operating system gives nowadays.
I prefer Avira to Avast, the ads only pop up once a week and av-comparatives lists it as having a few more tenths of a percent at detection (at the cost of some false positives that don't really bother me)
I use Avast just because that's what I've used for years. My install is minimal (I only have the AV and browser plugin) and I keep it in silent mode. I also have Malwarebytes in case something gets through. The two times my carelessness got shit on my PC I used HitmanPro to find any remains.
"Apologies for my harsh tone, but I'm really not thrilled about this trash being installed for Chrome users," he wrote.
That is pretty harsh.
Don't really need an anti-virus other than what the operating system gives nowadays.
For the record, both Avast and Avira free outperform MSE/Defender in both security and system impact tests. If you only care about speed and system impact, you should use Avast or Avira. There's no real good reason to use MSE in 2016. In every relevant field, the competition wins.
Bitdefender is also good but it only has a trial.
Common sense is the best anti virus. Serious note: How do you turn off Avast's stupid pop ups without going into silence mode (I want to see when viruses are blocked)
Common sense is the best anti virus. The irony is that common sense dictates that if you can have access to improved security for free with negligible consequences, you take it.

For example, look at this news article (of course this really just depends on the AV) And in this case the common sense is my AV joke usually means not to be an idiot while browsing the internet

No, I'm specifically talking about the people who say "I don't use any actual antivirus suite or program, common sense is my AV."
yeah and those people are unanimously thought to be dumb lol

Its not that hard staying safe really, just have ublock installed and that keeps you from nasty malware download sites like CNET for example and leave MSE running, why slow the system down when there's no need.
How do you manage to not even read the text you quoted Both Avast and Avira are FASTER than MSE
