[editline]22th January 2011[/editline] This is an HDD thread. Post anything related! -------------------------------------------------------- Say what HDD you have and post a screeny of your best score. http://www.hdtune.com/ This is just out of my curiosity and maybe to see which hard drives are better in different areas. 500gb WD Black. Replaced for free when my 500gb Blue died. It's 3/4 full. Hmm should I wipe windows... [editline]13th January 2011[/editline] Posting raids are ok too
This is my year old Seagate 7200.11 500GB drive This is my netbook's 160GB drive And this is my 1TB Spinpoint.
10k RPM Velociraptor.
Two 500GB Seagate 7200.12s in a software RAID 0: I also have a 8 disk hardware RAID 5 still in the process of adding a couple more disks. Should be done at some point tomorrow.
My lappy for shits and giggles.
1tb spinpoint f3 that is about half full. Also my hard drive beat the velociraptor up their. :smug:
Does access time matter?
1tb F3 that's about 1 third full.
Man it is sad most of these drives topple my WDS server drive, I only get about 30MB/s average... :suicide: Hopefully we can budget for a 32gb ssd to host the install images
Surprisingly consistent result on my 500gb 7200rpm Hitachi Deskstar. I presume the other one has a lower minimum because it's my main boot drive and the OS is accessing it a lot?
I've ran out of the evaluation period :(
I've ran out of the evaluation period :(
Re-download it and have a new one then :)
Damn something happened at the end, forgot what I did though. Think it was something in Sony Vegas. Edit: And here is my 500gb.

HDTach is better I find. But hey, I'll play the game. I think I may have won the Burst rate :v: 2x1TB Samsung F3s in RAID0 This one is with 128k block size:

Fuck yes just barely beat a netbook ...I need a new computer
[img_thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/yati.png[/img_thumb] Fuck yes just barely beat a netbook ...I need a new computer
What on earth did you do to make it drop that low?
What on earth did you do to make it drop that low?
Nothing. All I did during that test was chat in steam.
HDTach is better I find. But hey, I'll play the game. I think I may have won the Burst rate :v: 2x1TB Samsung F3s in RAID0
Mine are f2's with the on board RAID controller.
Re-did the test without loads of stuff running, seems more consistent. I just want an SSD for a boot drive so badly though.
Main drive Backup drive PATA master this one is in there because the main drive seems like it's going to die. PATA slave I think this is the new low.
Finally got my server array back up, I was expecting it to be a bit quicker than what I got but the stripe is set to 512k and I haven't really played around with it yet. Seven 500GB Seagate 7200.11/7200.12, hardware RAID 5 using a Dell PERC 5/i. An additional disk is reserved as hot spare.
Since I don't really have time right now to do a full benchmark, I just did a file benchmark. My write was faster than my read. I'm thinking I should update my firmware when I get home.
Don't ever RAID nonidentical drives.
ftfy.

Don't ever RAID nonidentical drives
ftfy.
This is true to an extent but there's so many variables that can apply it ends up being one of those endless debates that nobody agrees on.
Yeah I know, but you should always RAID identical drives for the best performance, and to get the most out of both drives.
