So I'm on my old laptop that barley runs half-life 1 at 40 fps and it is unbelievably slow. I'm connected to the internet though my phone :D that has a service called pc studio. If I try to connect to the internet through the phone from my windows 7 desktop it says that it's all connected to the internet but if I try to open any browsers it says that the web page has timed out. I have a Ethernet cord but I don't think I can make a connection by plugging it into both and configuring the desktop to connect to the internet that way. Please please help I really want to get on the internet on my fast computer and download stuff... SPECS: intel p4 3.0Ghz nvida geforce 9400GT overclocked to about 12% 2GB ram windows 7 bitdefender connecting through the USB pc studio interface. any other settings or specs please don't hesitate to ask, and if you have any suggestions at all ANY feel free to ask as for I am desperate to get this working.
Do you know if your router(if you have one) has DHCP enabled? If so, enable it. Otherwise you'd have to change your computer's static LAN IP address and it's gateway(the router in most cases). Don't know exactly how to do that on Windows 7, but it should be in the network connections settings, which you'll find under system control. So, as an example: Your router has the LAN IP 192.168.0.1, then you'd set your IP to 192.168.0.2, your gateway to 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0(default).
I don't have a router.
Here is a image of my internet settings: [img_thumb]http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z66/vexx21322/internet_troubles.png[/img_thumb] also I don't know if it matters but IPv6 has no internet conectivity but IPv4 does.
