I'm looking to upgrade my pc a bit but don't really know where to go next, or even whether I should just build an entirely new PC
Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
ATI HD 4850 512Mb
3gb 667mhz ram
P5n-e sli mobo
I was going to buy faster ram next and 4 gbs of it. Would that be the next rational step or what?
What's your budget for the upgrade?
Edit:
Ditch the Q6600(its a good CPU so keep it as a spare)
Get a HD 5770(or 5870 depending on the budget you have)
Get DDR3 ram(4gb min, yes in order to do this you need a new MB and CPU)
Get a LGA 1156 socket MB(ASUS p7p55d is good)
To accompany the new socket get a Intel core i5 750
Well depends really if its more than £100 I guess I'll just wait and spend lots , like £600 on a new PC
really less than £100 would be good
I guess we are limited then, may I ask where do you live? I'm asking because I and many other fellow Facepunch members probably don't know where you live and that alone makes finding an online site from where you can order parts next to impossible. I'm guessing USA?
Edit:
Wait... Just saw the British pound sign...(£ <- this bad boy)

Yeah south west england.
I've tried overclocking my cpu a bit but I had been able to get very far without crashing or simply not booting at all. Is it correct that my ram is too slow and 800Mhz or 1080Mhz or whatever it is would let me overclock it much more? I want to get to about 3.4/.6
My I ask what games are you playing on your machine? Are you playing intensive games like Crysis or something less intensive but still fun like Minecraft?
And reapaninja is sort of right on that, but I would still try to get a better GPU if you are planing to play some more intensive games like Crysis
OP you're not going to get a decent upgrade on that budget, and really if you don't know what to upgrade then you most likely don't need one, the RAM upgrade is a waste really
you could get a decent CPU heatsink like a Hyper 212+ and overclock the Q6
You think you could still get this GPU? Its a little bit over the budget its £117.49 while the budget is £100

if you're trying to play at a res higher than 1680x1050 you could get a GTX460 1GB but, it's a bit above your budget but anything less isn't worth the cost
Yeah south west england.

Yeah, umm you will not be able to get to those speeds on stock fans. Get it to only 3.o GHz instead. I would just recommend getting a 2x2GB RAM for upgrading.
I've not got stock fans on there, there is a large heatsink, arctic cooling I think it is.
So whats worse, my GPU or my CPU?
Let the public decide. Its simple just follow the 2 rules listed below...
Rate agree if the GPU sucks
Rate Disagree if the CPU sucks
Rate Winner if aaa.... why did I get rated Winner in the first place?
I personally say the GPU sucks since the Q6600 can over clock like crazy!
The only thing is I don't really know what I'm doing with overclocking, I sort of bumped up the FSB speed a bit and hoped for the best :v:

Throw up the multiplier, not the FSB.

Take a look at this little guide.

It should make you understand over clocking a bit more. But learning something is not quarantined!
