Computer model?
It's a built computer from like 8 years ago
Got a budget?
Build a completely new computer.
Got a budget?
I'd like to stay in the range of 600-700 dollars if that's possible, but I don't know if it is, which is why I defer to you.
Build a completely new computer.
Agree
Do I have to buy a new case too? Or are you just hating on my pauper rig
Well your going to have to find someone else to find parts for you right now but makes sure the case is big enough to support your motherboard: Ex. don't get a ATX mobo when your case only can support a mini atx mobo
$600-$800 is enough money for you to build your own computer and have it be pretty decent. That computer is simply too outdated in it's components to "upgrade it" to anything that would have modern components (not nessicarily good modern components, but modern in general). The best you could hope for would be to upgrade the processor to be maybe a 3800/4800/etc, the video card to be some 6800GT/7800GT (assuming it's PCI-E), etc. It just wouldn't be worth it in my eyes, compaired to just getting a brand new one. And you can get pretty damn good computers these days for $600-$800 that would run many circles around that PC assuming you have stuff like a monitor, OS, keyboard, ect already.
Would the hard drive be transplantable?
Would the hard drive be transplantable?
Yes
Would the hard drive be transplantable?
Hmm...we could operate...but the patient may lose a lot of blood. Is he on the donor list? You could backup all your documents and important files, but it would be wiser to start with a fresh HDD without any old drivers. You might also find that modern HDDs are slightly faster then your current one. Windows 7 is just around the corner so perhaps hold out for that. In general I agree with the sentiment that upgrading your ASS SHIT FUCK BALLS computer isn't worth the time, effort, or cost.
I agree on getting a new build. Check out the system marathons on tom's hardware
You def. need a new build. 600-800 should be fine for a pretty powerful computer.

I'd say scrap the HDD too (or use in another computer/server) Most likely your new mobo will have SATA connections for HDDs. HDDs aren't expensive any more, Less than $1 per GB, they will also be faster at reading and writing than the old HDDs.
655$ With this build you can max out every game you want... and it has a nice brand PSU, because here on facepunch people dont like offbrand stuff that costs less and gives the same
So you enjoy having your PSU go up in flames taking your hardware and important data along with it? And possibly a leg if it was to blow up, as in explosive. But I don't see that happenning.
wrong with an off brand you get extra stuff like fire, and shrapnel

laptop memory? oh yea...... shit, sorry
Use this RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
I wouldn't recommend putting laptop memory in a desktop computer, considering it won't fit.
Oh god, I can't believe I didn't notice that. Must have clicked the same link twice without realizing.
Don't save the Case. I got a $700 that can max out WaW and many other games. I only saved the DVD Drives, HDD, keyboard, and mouse.
Use this RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184
the mobo he suggested: Memory Standard: DDR3 1600(O.C)/1333 No, don't use that memory.
