They're not going to change the VA.
Even if this somehow reached the eyes of the Thief team, they wouldn't bring back the original VA.
More than likely they have already recorded the lines with the new guy, which means he has already been paid. They aren't going to drop him for the original guy and spend more money for lines that were already done.
Having Russell back would be nice, but I doubt it will happen. :(
Well Thief has had one of the "better" actor replacements, unlike the most recent Hitman game and *shudders* Blacklist.
The VA apparently sounds a bit a like, and the game is also a reboot so it's not a complete crime.

I was referring to the original outrage when it was said it wouldn't have.
I haven't played any of the Thief games but after comparing the two voices I think there isn't much need for disappointment. He sounds pretty similar.
I would like Russell back but I imagine they had already recorded all the lines for the character by now.

I recall it being due to some fancy mocap stuff they wanted the voice actor to do that good ol' Stephen Russell couldn't do.
Not a very good reason IMO but at least the replacement doesn't make me think "jesus christ why would you even call him Garrett"

the new voice is only slightly different from the old one.
The thing I'm most worried about is the personality. Garrett is exactly the kind of person who DOESN'T want to get caught up in "right or wrong" matters, and who absolutely despises getting roped into conspiracies. The only reason he does is because it's a) good money or b) threatening his life or livelihood as a thief. I hope they don't change that by making him some goody-two-shoes robin hood kind of person.

I feel like that's a bullshit reason.
I mean I might be able to accept the change if the new guy does a good job, but by that logic shows and movies shouldn't use stunt doubles because they aren't the actual actors.
