What is Your Country's National Anthem, and what do you think of it?
(you don't have to post lyrics if you don't want to, but it helps)
post it like this:
Name of anthem (country)
Lyrics (optional)
What you think of it
Mine is:
Advance Australia Fair (Australia)
Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.
Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands,
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine
To advance Australia fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia fair.
i think it should be changed a bit, not too much, but who uses the word "girt" anyway?
I think it should be "waltzing Matilda" instead
Too bad our verse is banned.
Germany *salutes* :downs:
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave?
It's a piece of shit British drinking song about a banner with stars on it. Don't worry about it.
We need to adopt something to the tune of the USSR National Anthem...

United States Of America National Anthem :patriot:

La Marseillaise (short version, the part you usually hear during events)
Instrumental version:
Allons enfants de la Patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Entendez-vous dans nos campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras.
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes!
Aux armes citoyens
Formez vos bataillons
Marchons, marchons
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons

Translation:
Arise children of the fatherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts
To arms citizens Form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows
Yep. Our anthem reminds people of the French revolution, hence the violent events mentioned.
a verse of Germany's is banned?
lol
Hahaha I have no idea.
I know the American one better than the British one.
Poland (Where I was born :patriot:) -
Jeszcze Polska nie zginela,
Kiedy my zyjemy.
Co nam obca przemoc wziela,
Szabla odbierzemy.
Chorus
Marsz, marsz, Dabrowski,
Z ziemi wloskiej do Polski,
Za twoim przewodem
Zlaczym sie z narodem.
Przejdziem Wisle, przejdziem Warte,
Bedziem Polakami,
Dal nam przyklad Bonaparte,
Jak zwyciezac mamy.
Chorus
Jak Czarniecki do Poznania
Po szwedzkim zaborze,
Dla ojczyzny ratowania
Wracal sie przez morze.
Chorus

And I also know the USA's national anthem off by heart :patriot:
Edit:
I hate the Australian anthem, the lyirics are stupid. They should at least mention some major battles Australia has been in, like Gallipoli or Vietnam. Seriously, what do I care that we're "girt by sea"?
i agree Colonel, they really should update our anthem

Flower of Scotland (Scotland)
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
The Hills are bare now,
And Autumn leaves
lie thick and still,
O'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
Those days are past now,
And in the past
they must remain,
But we can still rise now,
And be the nation again,
That stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see
your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
I really like it, don't really have a reason why but I just like it.
EDIT:
"I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free"
I know this might sound mean but a picture of Bush suddenly came into my head when I read that...
My own anthem:

O Canada
O Canada!
Our home and native land,
True patriot love, In all thy sons command,
With glowing hearts, we see the rise
The True North Strong and Free
From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep out land, glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
There is another 3 paragraphs or so, but no one cares about that part :P
"I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free."
Oh wait..
2
On the shore, dimly seen thro’ the mist of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
’Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
3
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner, in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
4
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the Heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our Trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I couldn't imagine sitting through that at a little league game.
O Canada
I don't feel like typing down the lyrics.

I present to you the Canadian national anthem in the mighty language of Inuktitut.
O'Kanata nangmini Nunavut piqujatii
Nalattiaqpavut angiglivaliajuti sangijulutillu
nanqipugu
O'Kanata mianiripluti
O'Kanata nunatsia
nangiqpugu mianiripluti
O'Kanata salagijauquna
Jesus it was hard enough trying to mumble your way through the French bits in elementary school, I can only imagine trying to work my way through that monstrosity.
Currently, the nation of Wikalias is having its national anthem edited. Please wait...

Great Britain!
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.
O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
The rightful national anthem of Denmark:
Internationale: (short version)
Rejs jer, fordømte her på jorden,
Rejs dig, du sultens slavehær.
I rettens krater, buldrer tordenen,
Nu er det sidste, udbrud nær,
Bryd kun fortids møre mur i stykker,
Slaveskare, der er kaldt!
Snart verdens grundvold sig forykker,
Fra intet da vi bliver alt.

Vågn til kamp, af jer dvale,
Til den allersidste dyst,
Og Internationale,
Slår bro, fra kyst, til kyst,
Vågn til kamp, af jer dvale,
Til den allersidste dyst,
Og Internationale,
Slår bro, fra kyst, til kyst,

Arbejdere, i stad på landet,
Engang, skal verden blive vor,
Den dovne, snylter skal, forbandet,
Forjages fra, den, rige jord.
Mange grippe, på vort blod sig mætter,
Lad os jage dem på flugt,
Vor kamp, en herligtid forjætter,
Hvor solen altid stråler smukt!

Vågn til kamp, af jer dvale,
Til den allersidste dyst,
Og Internationale,
Slår bro, fra kyst, til kyst,
Vågn til kamp, af jer dvale,
Til den allersidste dyst,
Og Internationale,
Slår bro, fra kyst, til kyst,

The only reason we have a crappy Anthem is because we are part of the Commonwealth. If we became a rebublic we would lose our ties to the rest of the Commonwealth but, our flag, our anthem and our laws would go with it along with any help from Commonwealth. Not really a fair Tradeoff
The national anthem of Norway:
Ja vi elsker dette landet
1. Ja, vi elsker dette landet,
som det stiger frem,
furet, værbitt over vannet,
med de tusen hjem.
Elsker, elsker det og tenker
På vår far og mor
Og den saganatt som senker
drømmer på vår jord.
2. Dette landet Harald berget
med sin kjemperad,
dette landet Håkon verget
medens Øyvind kvad;
Olav på det landet malte
korset med sitt blod,
fra dets høye Sverre talte
Roma midt imot.
3. Bøndene sine økser brynte
hvor en hær dro frem,
Tordenskiold langs kysten lynte,
så det lystes hjem.
Kvinner selv stod opp og strede
som de vare menn;
andre kunne bare grede,
men det kom igjen!
4. Visstnok var vi ikke mange,
men vi strakk dog til,
da vi prøvdes noen gange,
og det stod på spill;
ti vi heller landet brente
enn det kom til fall;
husker bare hva som hendte
ned på Fredrikshald!
5. Hårde tider har vi døyet,
ble til sist forstøtt;
men i verste nød blåøyet
frihet ble oss født.
Det gav faderkraft å bære
hungersnød og krig,
det gav døden selv sin ære -
og det gav forlik.
6. Fienden sitt våpen kastet,
opp visiret for,
vi med undren mot ham hastet,
ti han var vår bror.
Drevne frem på stand av skammen
gikk vi søderpå;
nu vi står tre brødre sammen,
og skal sådan stå!
7. Norske mann i hus og hytte,
takk din store Gud!
Landet ville han beskytte,
skjønt det mørkt så ut.
Alt hva fedrene har kjempet,
mødrene har grett,
har den Herre stille lempet
så vi vant vår rett.
8. Ja, vi elsker dette landet,
som det stiger frem,
furet, værbitt over vannet,
med de tusen hjem.
Og som fedres kamp har hevet
det av nød og seir,
også vi, når det blir krevet,
for dets fred slår leir.
Behold!
The national anthem of the Philippines
Original:
Bayang Magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.
Lupang hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig,
'Di ka pasisiil.
Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula at awit
Sa paglayang minamahal.
Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
Tagumpay na nagniningning,
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y 'di magdidilim.
Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya, na 'pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'yo.
English translation:
Land of the morning,
Child of the sun returning,
With fervor burning
Thee do our souls adore.
Land dear and holy,
Cradle of noble heroes.
Ne'er shall invaders
Trample thy sacred shore.
Ever within thy skies and through thy clouds,
And oe'r thy hills and sea,
Do we behold the radiance
Feel the throb of glorious liberty.
Thy banner, dear to all our hearts
Its sun and star alight
O never shall its shining field
Be dimmed by tyrants might.
Beautiful land of love, O land of light,
In thine embrace 'tis rapture to lie;
But it is glory ever, when thou art wronged
for us, thy sons to suffer and die.
Here it comes.
Thailand's National Anthem
