So... This is kind of a big deal?
I've never had anything to do with this but it seems cool.
Looks like I'll have to get it a third time :weeb:
i've heard a lot about this, seems interesting but i dunno if it's $30 interesting.

If you like time travel, drama and can stand VNs this will blow you away
The wallet fucking never ends
Steins;Gate is just so fucking good

I hope this sells really well and maybe, MAYBE, Japan will finally notice that Steam is a thing

Actually I find Steam is getting sorta flooded by VNs and far eastern games in general as of late, maybe it's just me though.

Waaaait, was CERN's Hell Portal even public knowledge when this originally came out? I coulda sworn the LHC wasn't publicly discussed until like a year or two ago.

Steins;Gate came out pretty much exactly a year after the official inauguration. It woulda been the hot new science thing to talk about at the time, which is why Daru drools over it

I'm talking about Steam being the first stop for distribution.
A lot of the stuff on Steam is either western games done in anime style, or games put on Steam by the localisers after it's been popular for years

My Vita and physical PC copy now have a steam version in their family
I'd be really temped to get this if I could be guaranteed it would run on my computer. 3/4 Steam games I've bought since the beginning of the year won't even start for me. (Disgaea, N++, and Muv-Luv with the only working one being Flowers.) All the timeline shenanigans kinda seems like it'd be perfect for a visual novel format.

Namco and Capcom got you covered then. Konami too, of all companies.
[editline]9th September 2016[/editline]
The big problem that stops a lot of other Japanese publishers from doing simultaneous PC releases all the time is financial issues (Square Enix), manpower shortages (Sega), or both (Sega again).
Namco is able to do these things because Dark Souls turned them into a juggernaut overnight, and Capcom's shtick last gen was swooping in on the open PC market when EA, Activision, and others were pulling out because "piracy".
Konami? I dunno why.

Is it worth playing if I watched the full anime and thought it was okay?

Stuff like God Eater, Dragonball Xenoverse, Hyperdimension, off the top of my head, as well as Square Enix porting all the FF games to PC seems to show that Japanese publishers and developers are moving to Steam ever since Metal Gear Rising and Valkyria Chronicles showed them how profitable Steam/PC could be.

It's worth playing, the vn is from okabe's perspective (so you get to understand what he's thinking, best example is his chuuni conversations with feris) and has more scenes and alternate endings.

I may just go ahead and get it at some point regardless. I have a fairly good idea what my issue seems to be, though I'm not actually 100% certain. Biggest issue is figuring out how to get my Visual C++ redistributables to actually repair since the repair function from Microsoft's installer doesn't seem to fix it nor does uninstalling then reinstalling it. If I can't figure it out on my own I might have to resort to the H&S subforum to try and figure it out. I'm sure just reinstalling Windows would probably work but that's a huge pain in the ass to deal with.
Just in case anybody cares, there's some issues with this version. This review says what I mean.
There's more problems then just what's in the review though. It's not real HD, all the assets were just blown up. The videos are just upscales. The console version introduced Wordwrapping issues which they still haven't fixed. You're better off buying the JAST version if you want quality. MAGES was extremely lazy on this release.

Welcome to Visual Novels, engines that are terrible get used to port to PC and there you have the issues.
Its' minor issues, I suppose. Word wrapping will be fixed by the community one day (The problem is that the engine they use is different, so maybe not.. Since this is the engine used for the console version) , the phone settings being machine translated could be fixed.
In the end, sure its' lazy. I just never expected a day to come where Steins;Gate or Nitroplus would give a damn about the western market.
But, then again I never expected anything to begin with. So I'm happy and content.
The actual translation of the game is actually the JAST version which is pretty good. Yes, there's some really silly things like "You got A new Tips!" or "Settings instead of to set wallpaper or ringtone". (The reason for this is that this was unique to the console version and was therefore machine translated by MAGES probably)
Remember this release was a preorder reward of Steins;Gate 0 in Japan. Sure, its' going to be lazy. Could you imagine if Huke were to redraw every asset? Most HD releases of old titles are upscaled, there's just no way economically they could do it any other way. Sure the videos will be upscaled too. It's actually a really weird thing most HD releases of old VNs are 720p upscales, but then again Steins;Gate on consoles was already 720p. So I guess a 1080p upscale makes sense.
Anyways, I'm more worried about Steins;Gate 0 because apparently its' not done by anyone who translated or edited Steins;Gate. So yeah, welcome again to Visual Novels. Its' a mess in the west.
