Young Danny awoke in delight.
Anticipating Santa's gifts from last night.
He skipped every other stair,
His excitement he could hardly bear.
He stopped suddenly at the landing.
For what he saw, his attention demanding.
Beneath the tree, all was gone!
"What a strange Christmas dawn,
Not a toy, not an elf."
Danny remarked to himself.
"Where are my toys, the delicious candy?!"
and it was then Danny started to see,
His family was gone, with no trace.
A puzzled look came to his face,
And he made to himself this query:
"What is going on? For it's quite eerie."
Danny searched high and low,
Wondering "Just where did they go?"
After searching his house all over,
Danny looked out and saw his neighbor Miss Clover.
Her mouth was agape,
She began to scream like an ape,
And Danny rushed himself outside.
"Miss Clover, what is it? Should I run and hide?"
But Miss Clover shook her head and just pointed.
Danny looked and expected to be disappointed.
He started to scream, he let out anguished cries.
He just could not believe what he'd seen with his eyes.
There lying on the ground,
just sitting frozen, bloated and round
Were the heads of his brother,
His father, sister and mother.
Danny fought back his tears,
This was beyond all his fears.
And there atop his mother's head,
a note lay, here's what it said:
"Danny, I must first off say,
Have a happy Christmas Day.
Now second I must tell you,
Why this is what I had to do.
See, you were far too greedy
And seeming all the more needy
All you did was want, never did you give.
So in exchange for this, no longer do they live.
You see young Danny, your life meant nothing to you.
So I figured out, here's what I'll do.
I'll take each of their lives
With poison and knives,
And make you appreciate life.
Now that you've gone through such strife.
Just try to give some in life.
For surely it's a worthy cause.
Sincerely, Mr. Santa Clause"
