Didn't they put in the "Free" to play option because they were hemorrhaging subscribers because people were just flatout bored due to blazing through what was supposed to be a years worth of content in a month? And it makes total sense that a declining interest in MMOs are why people haven't totally warmed up to a restrictive "free" to play system where so much stuff is missing and it costs so much to buy the stuff piece by piece that they might as well just subscribe. Yet they don't feel the game is worth the subscription.
I blame the shrinking interest in bad games.
I blame the shrinking interest in bad games.
but how come call of duty
" Oh hey we can't make our games Pay to play; rather then making free to play mmo's, lets just make another fifa and be rich! "

God damnit, I cant believe nobody has made something even similar to SWG yet, it came out 9 years ago yet nobody has realized that it was one of the best MMOs to date and only failed because of SoE's absolute incompetence.

Doesn't matter how much YOU (as a developer) think the content will take. They launched an MMO with false promises, poor content and they treated poorly their costumers. After Boredon is just one of the many aggravants.

After 1.0 they plan to do JTL as well.

It would be awesome if there was a new game released that worked basically the same way but better, I wouldn't even care if it was set in the Star Wars universe if that was the case. Repopulation is similar, but their whole membership/cash shop system sounds quite trashy, especially since if you want to preorder with the highest membership you need to pay $100. Also the fact that the more you play, the more days headstart you get, so all of the best land plots will likely be taken by the time anyone else gets in.

It's not that people don't want MMOs, it's that people want some new energy in the genre.

Jesus christ SWG Pre-CU was amazing, but it was more of a social game in the Star Wars universe with Roleplay mechanics and a really neat resource/crafting/housing system. I don't know if it would ever compete with other MMOs today, but it was definitely unique

Guild Wars 2 would like a word with you EA, not to mention WoW and a whole host of other mmo's still doing successfully, it's not that there's a shrinking interest it's that there's a bigger variety in the MMO genre now compared to 2-3 years ago.
People who want a WoW-clone play WoW. People who want something else play something else. All they really have is the Star Wars name.
I wish companies would take responsibility for their bad games instead of just trying to find a scapegoat like shrinking sales or pc not being saved enough by razer
I dunno, I kinda enjoyed SWTOR - but I stopped paying for it, and the free to play model that they have doesn't want to make me play it anymore.
