Nvidia is hoping that Max-Q will encourage laptop makers to create gaming laptops that can actually be used on the go, rather than remain permanently tethered to a wall socket because humanity's best scientists haven't yet created a battery-sized fusion power cell.
My Asus gaming laptop can run at full power for like an hour and a half on battery, more if I put it in power saving mode. That's been plenty so far...
I hope some brands will get rid of the ugly branding and "gamer" design. But at least it doesn't look like a sports car. It's a nice idea but I think external gpus will become a better option for most people.
This. CEO is looking for a laptop and I could barely work up the will to reccomend him a Razer Blade Stealth. It's not terribly gaudy, but compared to the Lenovo X1 Carbon, there is a very clear 'gamer vs business' aesthetic comparisons that almost removes the value benefit of the Blade Stealth

Origin has some great high powered laptops that don't look like they're for your little brother.

He does a bit of video editing which can benefit from a gpu when he's at his desk (I actually put an R9 295x2 in his personal desktop a few years ago for it). I know you can use the core on basically anything, but i know its a bit fucky with non razer machines
https://dbrand.com/shop/razer-blade-stealth-skins-kaby-lake you could just get him a skin to cover the logo
slap on some stickers lol
