I want to see where people draw inspiration from in therms of musical fields. In this tread, you can talk about any musical genre (Even Scream-O Viking Jazz Polka!) with Artist, and then a short bio (From Credible Source) or why you simply like them, with a bit of effort put into it. A bad response would be: I LIKE THE VILLAGE PEOPLE BECAUSE THERE'S AN INDIAN IN IT. While Indians are cool and shit, we'd like to talk more as to why they influence you, or what they have done that might be considered something either a normal fucking genuine and helpful human being would do. A Good response: Freddy Mercury means a lot to me due to his -never give up- attitude, and the fact he didn't give a shit about his homosexuality during a very hard and risky time to be as such. The man stood up to what he believed to be right as moral, and what felt right as an Individual, even if it did bring about his demise. The fact that he became SO popular and is still considered popular today gives me hope for the turn around of acceptance of Gay folk, not that of male bringing, but female, and trans as well. Not to mention he's a pretty big fucking deal in the homosex community and the musical industry. The world can do with a few more Freddies. So on and so forth. If you think this is stupid, please rate accordingly. I just want to see where majority of the old/new generation draw their inspirations from.
Kanye West is my favorite artist because he makes good music and he says funny things. He also put on the best live show I've ever been to. It also seems to me that every album he comes out with seems to spring up at the exact right time. I was super into extravagant, avant garde stuff when MBDTF came out, was super into braggadocio when Watch The Throne came out, and was listening to a lot of minimalist, angry stuff like Death Grips when Yeezus dropped. He also makes darn good music videos.
i'm not doing your homework assignment for you sorry
I'd have to say Dream Theater is my fave group. Not just because I love their music, but because they opened the doors of Progressive music to me. I consider the first time I heard them to be a sort of epiphany; before I never really seriously listened to music. I'm not a fan of pop or the run-of-the-mill boy bandish alt rock that my friends were into at the time. Dream Theater led me to Rush, Symphony X, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Pink Floyd, and the list goes on. They also made me a better musician, in a way, by giving me a high standard to strive for. Songs that are more interesting and challenging to learn on guitar than whatever Green Day song was popular (Not to bash Green Day or anything). A single DT title forced me to learn and perfect more new techniques than any other band. Besides, you can't argue with this:
i'm not doing your homework assignment for you sorry
Out of School. Not doing College right now, either. Just a curious question and was hoping people would just answer without fuss, but that's cool, if you think I'm trying to use you guys like fodder for homework and what not. Because that's not what's going on here. Graduated from Lakeview Technical Academy from 5/13, and I haven't gotten back into College either. So there's that.
I'd have to go with Manchester Orchestra. Looking at Andy Hull, you really wouldn't expect much of him, but him and the other band members pack a massive punch for an indie(esque?) rock band. The rawness is what gets to me, honestly. Each note, both instrumental and vocal, interchange between powerful jabs of raspy heartflow and smooth, low-key crooning. Another key factor being the way they write their music, choosing an almost orchestra-like design filled with buildup, to the point where the climax of each song utterly leaves me speechless. You can always tell if a band is good by the true emotion put into their songs, hidden personal flaws spread throughout, and this one is usually my reference point. Plus, dat beard. Their live shows are amazing if you get the chance to see them. Take this, for example: Not exactly pure live, but they can certainly hold their own.
Matt Bellamy of Muse. That man has an absolutely incredible voice and you can just hear the raw emotion that he puts into his songs, they all seem very genuine and heartfelt. He's also an incredibly talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (vocals, guitar and piano/keyboard) and I really respect how he isn't afraid to change things up on every album. Listening to him (and Muse as a whole) have also led me to having a greater appreciation for classical music and instruments I otherwise wouldn't care about (piano, strings, etc). Pet shop boys - West end girls It's been a while since I've listened to this, thanks OP. But in all honesty, I found this video a while back while looking at the 'related' video section. The guys name is Neil Tennant. And apparently it was Davids changing last name as well. David Tennant, y'know, the guy that plays the tenth doctor in doctor who.
I love the ideas and music you guys listen to. Please don't stop :V I'll jump in with another song. Ironically one that's found in most Media Players for vista/7 Windows. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the soothing sounds of Bob Acri. This speechless artist has captivated my mind many a night during bouts of stress and depression. I give this man half of my world, and I wish I could give more back to him. Sadly, I don't know much about him, BUT. Let's go take a look! Bob Acri (* 1918 in Chicago ) is an American jazz pianist . Acri attended Austin High School and worked as a musician in the radio orchestras of NBC and ABC and in the house band of the Chicago clubs Mr. Kelly . He walked with Harry James on tour and accompanied Lena Horne , Mike Douglas , Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand , as well as Buddy Rich and Woody Herman . He achieved fame primarily for his music for example, the computer operating system Windows 7 , specifically the song Sleepaway . Only in old age he took albums under his own name. (SOURCE - http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Acri ) Here's the sample that virtually all Windows Seven Operating Systems should have. Serj Tankian, I love the way his Armenian heritage manages to permeate through every piece he does and manages to write deeply political music without being too preachy about it. And while I do love System of a Down, I'd have to say his solo work is infinitely more interesting. Also he just sounds nice, he has a very emotive and expressive voice. This video of him singing one of his father's songs with him is one of the beautifully disarming things I've seen.
