I'm very interested in seeing how big of a performance boost Mantle will give my HD7950.

Sounds good to me. The Frostbite engine seems quite versatile and well optimized so more power to them if that's part of their new pipeline. Maybe we'll start seeing a genuine competitor to Unreal Engine this generation, assuming EA licenses Frostbite to anyone else.

For the visuals frostbite 3 pushes, it's incredibly optimized.
