About 4 or 5 years ago, I bought my first and only portable music player, the ipod 5.5g 30GB. I bought it on a whim without doing any research. It was pretty cool at first, but even when it was new, I noticed battery life problems. I could barely watch any videos without the batteries running out after a 20 minute episode of southpark.
Today, the problem progressed to the point where I'm lucky to get two 6 minute songs before the batteries run out.
I am disapoint.
And I never have been keeping up with all the ipod zune market and such.
So tomorrow is my brother's 11th birthday. He wants a portable music player. Hes probably just going to not use it after a while, leaving me to take full advantage of its features (lol ulterior motive).
So facepunch, what is a good portable music player on the market today?
I'm interested in lasting battery life. I have no brand preferences. Must have atleast 12 Gigabytes of harddrive space. OLED screen would be niace. Apps and games and such not necessary, but I don't dislike.
Thanks
Get the Zune HD, it's pretty much an iPod touch, but cheaper, and has audiosurf. Plus I've heard many people have gripes about iTunes that don't exist once they switch to the Zune software
Sansa Fuze I heard was good for head fi,
Anyone saying and ipod is :downs:
Get the Sansa Clip. They're pretty cheap, and have excellent SQ.

I don't use itunes.
Sansa don't seems to have enough space for me.
Get a Sony Walkman MP3 player.
They're really good IMO
Zune HD 16gb, or 32 if you want some HD video.
Zunes are awesome, but you have to use the Zune software (plus no last.fm, unless they fixed that). That is the only reason why I prefer iPod's.

You're saying that iTunes is better than Zune Software?
Also "fixed that" implies it was a bug (or something of the sort). It's not Microsoft's job to add Last.fm support. That's Last.fm's job.
I use my Blackberry storm 8g :(
Sometimes the music continue but I cant hear it untill I press the volume buttons
I need a bigger player but smaller In size

Hey, it's his opinion. I would have to say it's true though. iTunes and I never liked it each other. My opinion doesn't change even though I have a iPod Touch 16gb.
Until there's an Android-based PMP, which there may never be, I'd have to say iPod Touch. I've got a 64GB model, and aside from the occasional iTunes gripes, it's been great for me.
Also, I love the selection of games and applications. Plants Vs. Zombies is a must-have.
The question I want to ask all of you recommending your portable music players is this:
How long have you had it, and how is the battery life.

How's the battery life isn't a good question, because everyone has it configured differently and uses it differently.
Had it since X-Mas '09. It's at 65% battery at the moment; I have an estimated 19:23 of audio (screen locked), 3:53 of video, 3:14 of Wi-Fi internet use.
iPod Touch 64, for clarification.
I use my blackberry when Im at work so its around 9h constant of music
I also have a backup battery in case it dies
when im finish at work I have like 20-30% left

Awesome DAC and very affordable. Zune and Ipods and crap.
Or wander on over to Cowon and see what they have to offer. They also make very high quality PMP's.

Buying a Zune was the worst decision I ever made in my life.

Microsoft forces you to use their own shitty Last.fm-esque service.
You HAVE to use the terrible Zune program. You can't sync or record play counts using any other program due to its dumb protection
For those who hate using iTunes, why not use Foobar with iPod addon? It works great, and I don't have to deal with piece of shit software.

The Fuze, View, and Clip+ all have MicroSD slots so you could potentially have the amount on-board memory+32GB. I have a Sansa Clip, and I love it to bits.
