I have this pc:
http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668232.php
400 watt PSU running 1 HDD, 1 CD-drive, a Q8200 and 8 gigs of ram
I'm wondering if i can put this in it:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500115&cm_re=9800_gt-_-14-500-115-_-Product
I'm pretty sure it meets minimum reqs but I just want to make sure
That 400W will have no chance. at full load.
Get a 550W atleast.
You'd really be pushing it to it's limits. You may have to go for a slightly bigger PSU

JamesMay, Eww. Just Eww.
Are prebuilt's able to have different PSUs? I heard somewhere they have certain grounding points so you cant swap them out.
You might have enough power.

Take a picture of the side of the power supply.

Also get the 4770, it's better than the 9800 GT.

[editline]02:41AM[/editline]
Also the power consumption, you won't need a new psu.

Can't take a picture but it says:
DC Output: 400W (+3.3V & +5V & +12V1 & +12v2 = 385W Max)
+3.3V = 30.0A, +5V = 28.0A, 12V1 = 14.0A, 12V2 = 15.0A
Is that all you need to know? There's a little more.
Unless you NEED Nvidia, I recommend this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150441&cm_re=xfx_4870-_-14-150-441-_-Product
*XFX 4870*
Better performance for about the same price, and depending on brand, it's only $30 more at MOST.

Notice I said ABOUT, but a 4850 is fine too.
If I'm gonna go for those can anyone recommend me a PSU for around 50$?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182160
Thats around $55 and gives around 530W.
Although I recommend saving up and getting a 750W one, that way you wont have to spend on a new one if you get a more powerful GPU in the future.
Get this psu instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031

problems with this post:
>you recommended rosewill
>500W will power any single card setup unless it has 500 HDDs
Yea I had a 500W supply with my old 9800 GT and it ran just fine.
According to my experience, Gateway puts FSPGroup Power Supplies in their computers.
Are they proprietary?

Is your motherboard like this:

or like this:

?
The top one its regular ATX as far as I know
that pc makes no sense..
Q8200, GT120 (9500gt) and 8gb ram??
too much ram

I don't see any reason why you couldn't change the PSU.. Check the back of the case to see if it has the right screws in the right places.
Yeah my PC is a little weird but the mounting looks normal.
Its M-ATX. It probably has two PCI, One PCI-E x16, and one PCI-E x1.
As far as I know even BTX based cases use ATX standard PSUs so there shouldn't be any problem with swapping the PSU here, though I'm not so sure it's necessary to change out the CPU for an upgrade to an HD4770/HD4850. Especially with the HD4770's low power consumption due to the 40nm Fab process.
You'd really be pushing it to it's limits. You may have to go for a slightly bigger PSU
I saw you go to the moon
I'm happy with my 8800GT and 350W Antec.
I'm happy with my 8800GT and 350W Antec.
Almost exactly the same here. It's the current on the rails that's important.
Your 400W will hold up easily.
Are prebuilt's able to have different PSUs? I heard somewhere they have certain grounding points so you cant swap them out.
I use the gateway case with brand new parts.
Everything fits in fine.
Hell even one of the motherboard screws areas is replaced with a helpful guide for motherboard installation.
So am I going to be good without a PSU for the 9800? If I really need to I can get a PSU too.
