Hey guys, I'm looking to build a computer real soon with the help of some of my friends who are more experienced. I'm hoping to run games like Battlefield 3 and Rage on ultra/max with around 60 fps. Here's what I already have: Monitor (22", 1920 x 1080) Mouse Keyboard Headphones/Speakers Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS What I need is a case, GPU, CPU, HDD, etc. everything else, and I'm wondering if I could get some help with that. The person helping me build it said he'd recommend a build for me soon, but I'd like to see what you guys say as well. Thanks! Also, I'd like to buy/build it ASAP, because I can only get the Windows 7 OS for free this semester because of an online course I'm taking.
Here's a build my friend whipped up for me: RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws series 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM GPU:Radeon HD 6950 DVD/CD burner: ASUS 24X DVD Burner Power Supply: CORSAIR 850TX Motherboard: ASRock P67 extreme4 GEN3 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197&cm_sp=Cat_Computer_Cases-_-Spotlight-_-11-119-197] Cooler Master HAF922 black computer case CPU: Intel Quadcore i7-2600k SandyBridge 3.4 GHZ HDD: Western Digital RE4 500GB What do you think, would you make any changes? The total comes out roughly to around $1133 which is pretty good for what I'm willing to spend. He said to save money I could always get a core i5-2600k, a cheaper power supply, or a GTX 560 ti or HD 6850. HE then adds for around $200 more, I could get a SDD and 4 GB more RAM (which I don't really see the point, 8 GB seems a lot already). I was thinking about getting a 1 TB HDD instead of 500 GB but I'd like some feedback if possible...
Change the i7-2600k to a i5-2500k. Equal performance in games and 100$ less [editline]7th October 2011[/editline] i7 is only useful in heavy video editing because of hyperthreading [editline]7th October 2011[/editline] Oh and a GTX 570 outperforms a 6950 at 1920x1080 and lower. It also has PhysX, CUDA and better OpenGL support

Is this pretty good based on what you guys said? I went ahead and got a keyboard and mouse because that wasn't a sure thing I was going to have. The total comes out to around $1,087 with shipping and everything added in.
You don't need an 850w power supply, get a 700w to save some money and it'll do 570 SLI comfortably.
Difference is 20 dollars. I'd say decide for yourself, as that is a very minor amount.
Difference is 20 dollars. I'd say decide for yourself, as that is a very minor amount.
You can get a good 700w for $80-$100.
Just bumping to say I'm posting from the build you guys recommended me. I decided to stick with the 850w 'cause I figured, why not? Anyways, haven't tested it out on any games so far, but just wanted to say thanks.

An SSD will only speed up loading times and they aren't very good value. 8 Gigs of ram is becoming the standard. A more powerful PSU is only needed if the wattage of the GPU and CPU adds up the more than the power supply. Unless you're running 2 or 3 high end cards on SLI you won't need more than 750 watts.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042 Might I suggest an Antec 300 case instead? It's a little cheaper, essentially the same features. As for HDD size, I doubt you'd really need 1 TB if this is just for gaming. While newer games are right around 10-15 gigs, You've got enough room to hold right about 30-40 Games on that 500 Gig. Now assuming that you buy 30 games at an average of 40 dollars you'd be running into 1200 dollars of games. Which IMO means that you'd be set for a good 2 Years or so.
I already built it, using the second build from previous suggestions. But thanks for your input regardless!
